Currently riding with the Alp X 2 - seems v good on and off road - fits well and doesn't flap in the wind, fully waterproof, packs down small (~350 grams), has a hood that can be worn under the helmet, has an extending tail - all good:-)

The Alp-X SO is a thin "shell" jacket with just a mesh liner. Ideal in changeable conditions and over an insulating layer in colder weather. It's not fully waterproof (e.g. no taped seams) but you can make it pretty much water-resistant using a wash-in product.

The Phantom is a much thicker/warmer shell that wouldn't need so much insulation underneath. Again, Nikwax or Granger will help with water resistance.

FWIW, I prefer the Alp-X. There are very few occasions where my core is cold enough to warrant a Phantom worn sleeveless.

FWIW, tgstore had some Phantoms for £65 a wee while back, might be worth a quick look.
Bought one, but like druidh says it's quite a hefty material, more so than my old Phantom which is a pretty ideal weight.
