Just wondered if these jackets are too delicate for mtb use ?
Reduced to 160 quid in Evans, I've been fancying one for all year round duties, don't like the big jackets unless it's sub zero or a big mountain ride as they are a pain in the arse to carry.

They're like paper so all fine until the first off. I wouldn't. Good for road tho...

I’d agree. I rode most of Lands End to John O Groats in September in the rain wearing mine. Never got wetted out and never got sweaty. Amazing tech for a single skin jacket.

Would I wear mine on the MTB? No too delicate.

That was my original thought as well to be honest, I have a cheap Montane boil in the bag pack a jacket thingy, similar weight and feel but I've had some big crashes and its indestructible so it just made me wonder.
Any suggestions for a nice packable plain black jacket that's a bit tougher and still performs well?

I don’t even wear my Castelli version on the road if it’s a bit icy and I think there’s a chance I might come off!

I'm guessing a fall or even just wearing a backpack might bugger one up quite quickly

Also, only in black? Not my choice for road rides in the pissing rain (I know we don't have to wear bright stuff but, ...)

I think they specifically advise against wearing it off-road, and also against wearing packs (at any rate Castelli did with the eVent Pave which they've just replaced with the Skakedry Idro).

Nowhere near tough enough to risk catching on thorns etc at £200 a pop. They are adding colour to the 2018 range, but only by using panels of non-Shakedry material. It's effectively the PTFE membrane with no laminate either side so they can't add colour to the material itself. I have the Idro and both the Castelli roundels and red pipe trim are basically stickers.

I bought one of these earlier in the year. Was previously £60 but even at £70 I thought it was pretty good VFM for eVent, haven't had that much chance to use it in anger (bought to use on and off road). Colour is a bit drab but I like the cut.

Berghaus Hyper 100 if you can find one. It's a closely-cut, very light, decently breathable, waterproof jacket that's made from a three-layer fabric. It's not exactly rugged, but tougher than the Gore-Tex Shake Dry stuff at least. I've used it on the road and on the mountain bike, but never crashed big in it. Not cheap either and I'm not sure if they're still available.

Generally with really light stuff, you're trading weight and bulk for durability, but the Shake Dry stuff is right on the end of that continuum and properly delicate, but for road riding or running it works really well.
