So I’m thinking about mounting a camera gimbal to my frame or handlebars to take videos, I want to show some super-steady and clean shots, I think only a camera gimbal can do this. Does anyone have experience with this?

Due to my incredible ability to break very expensive stuff I want something more dispensable, I think I can squeeze by with a cheaper, lower-quality gimbal that would suffice my application. I have a forge 3dprinter so making custom PLA adapters to fit on my bike would be easy

I’ve been thinking about DIY’ing a camera gimbal, but too much work , I found some deals on ebay and a couple other small shops that I searched: Anyone familiar with these, the Feiyu Tech G4 seemed like the best value.

Removu S1 = $200 with shipping

Feiyu Tech G5 = $180 with shipping

Feiyu Tech G4= $89.95 ( with free shipping on orders $159+)

Yes - I have an DJI osmo with a bike bracket. Results weren't that great but having said that I could do with having a second go.

I'm about to get a GoPro 7 with the image stabilisation built in so will report in this thread.

We have an assortment of gimbals but they are not the best for rough moving platforms. They work well on things like drones, cars, skateboards. There are too many movements on a bike I reckon to be stabilised out.

Remember gimbals only deal with pivoting based stabilisation. Movement through the z axis (up and down) doesn't get cancelled out.

The bike mount for the Osmo can be had for around £20 I'd you look around.

We also have a ronin-s but that would be too big for cycle mounting.

put it on a chest mount (stuntman is best) or make a chin mount without a gimbal.

I had my Hero 7 black out for first ride yesterday and watching footage of same trail my mate shot on his session 4 it’s night and day
Very impressed with the stability on it

try (borrow) a hero 7 you might be surried at the stabilizing software's capabilities.
gimbals tend to stay level, not roll with the bike and hide even harsh elevation change (drop/jump/compression etc) and to me look rather disconnected on a bike (like a flying camera rather than a ground covering vehicle. Fair enough if that's what you're after a gimbal is still the one.

The new osmo pocket looks like it would work on a bike mount quite well but I think the Hero 7 is the one to get for action sports as its more robust and the stabilising works in 3d

I constructed an aluminium mount for my Zhiyun Rider M gimbal and attached it to the handlebars of my rigid 26" used for commuting. It was fine on smooth surfaces but couldn't handle trail chatter at all. Suspension would help a little I guess. Really I think it needs that bit of extra disconnect from the bike that the human body provides, but I haven't actually tested the gimbal + handlebar mount on anything with suspension yet.

There's a Ronin2 and a Blackarm bolted to my office wall, wonder if anyone makes a 52mm scaffclamp to 27.2mm seatpost adapter?

FWIW we tried bike mounting an Osmo for a documentary and it works but the resulting footage is a bit unusual so was never used. Going to get a set of Hero 7's to replace our 4's but I suspect we'll keep using the 4's and keep the 7's for very specific shots.

I would highly recommend an insta360 camera. I have the one and it's super smooth without a gimbal. The one x will be even better.

I’ve got wg2 gimbal but I do mount on a GoPro body mount strapped to me.

I have a feeling that the instructions do say not to mount on a bike as it’s too harsh your legs sorta take a lot of shock and vibration out of the equation.

The gimbal does seem to get around the shots I used to get of my knees thou and it’s much more watchable than the shakey messes without one but as said it’s got a definate look to it and tbh it does make you look a bit of a nobber with it strapped on.
