GoPro help needed!
I've been lucky enough to win a GoPro Hero 8 Black in the Xmas raffle at work.

Lovely bit of kit, but the GP software stinks.
App on phone and tablet seems very hit and miss. A right faff to connect to and then, maybe files are visible. Whole set-up being re-done everytime I try to transfer files.
And no luck getting it to connect to computer on USB. Followed the support articles on GP website, but it's not being detected by my Win10 computer.

Anyone have similar problems?
Anyone using other non-GP apps?

Totally agree-their software stinks.

Re connecting to windows; had similar issue on Mac solved by eventually finding the setting to change the usb mode.

When cameras charged I’ll check but you basically get to menu on camera by dragging down on touch screen and change usb mode to something like mtp. It should then act like a mass storage device and let you browse files.

Yes, I have a Hero7 Black and the app is turd. I tried to download a few videos to quickly make some short clipped videos and it was an absolute ball ache.

Well, it's reassuring to see that it's not me being a doofus.

So far the only reliable way to access the content is to pull out the card, stick it in an adapter and into the computer.

Aye, hero8 here today, it's murder getting it to connect to the app, every single time.

Just checked the setting that work for me to allow connection to computer.

Power on camera
Slide down from top of screen to bring up settings.
Select Preferences, the Connections.
Make sure USB connection is set to MTP not GoPro Connect.

Hope that helps.

Ah Ha! Sorted!

Following advice from the world of Facebook, I reformatted the SD card through the camera (swipe down>preferences>reset>Format SD Card).

Now, it seems, all is well. Connects through the app easily (if a bit slow), and recognised by the computer too as long as the USB connection is set to MTP.
