Are these worth the investment...local honest bike shop owner thought they were overkill in the UK. Any experience or views out there?

I think they were worth upgrading to a few years ago, but most manufactureres now put better quality hoses on than used to be the case. I still think goodridge are probably better than most, not worth upgrading to, but worth fitting if a current hose is damaged and needs replacing.

Got them on my old shimanos, and night and day difference so got them for my XTs on the DH bike. I can't say for other brakes, but the older shimano in my opinion are a must.

think the hoses on the new line of Elixrs are moe than adequate in the UK.

however, would recommend for the alps!

for brake feel and performance, not alot better than stock.

For anti-kink and damage resistance oh yes. Much easier to make neat cable runs from too, as its more flexible.

Would back up Scienceofficer's view, I felt that the rear brake benfitted most feel wise, I guess due to the longer run. The Goodridge stuff is certainly bomb proof.

Cable rub must be worse if not protected though!

absolutely no percievable difference between my mono m4s and my mates goodridged mono m4s - he good ridged to stop his cable getting crushed by monster Ts and the large downtube on his patriot - it didnt work - hose burst

+1 for rear brake.

I used one to try to equalise the feel between front and rear. rear feels sharper than front now!

only really asking as I am off to morzine in July and wondering what I need to do to my bike to alpineise it???? I have an 8" rotor up front but wonder if that could be detremental regarding heat build up with it being larger diameter. nothing to do with them coming in white either!!

Big rotors dissipate heat better an therefore better in the alps.

As for goodridge hoses, naff all difference in terms of feel here a far as I can tell (older shimano and hayes 9) although the shimano always feel soggy, even with goodrige hose and a fresh bleed.

I only use them as a) I got them with the brakes
b) they don't kink

I've got the same Code's, 203mm, same pads, on 2 bikes, 1 with goodridge and the other without so have had quite a good 'with-without' test. The Goodridge'd ones definitely feel like they have extra power, in a way they're more abrupt. The non-goodridged ones lack in a bit in power but I think feel better.

I've never had any problems with either of them overheating. We have a lot of descents that are longer than Morzine and a lot of stuff that is steeper and needs more brakes so if it's OK here then it'll be OK there. I use sintered pads, 203mm rotors and I've been fine with both the goodridge's and stock hoses. I'm putting a set of Elixers on today with the standard hoses (still 203mm).

Formaula's own hoses are so expensive that when it's time to buy replacements I am planning to budget the extra £2 to go goodridge. I've had a couple of goodridged brakes before and it seemed as though they might be a bit harder to kink (although I agree with the crushing bit and lever feel being no different IME).

Actually I'm sure I read a year or so after the Goodridge 'epiphany' that formula never suplied braided hoses as it spoilt the feel of the brake and wasn't worth the bother. Anyone know/remember?

I suppose you can also dismantle and reuse fittings or hose later on which is harder to do with 'normal' hoses and fittings mostly.

further update on my return from morzine...brakes were fine and responding fine for all three days...intersetingly, my brother's strokers pulled to the lever at the bottom of descents then gradually came back to normal.

+1 for looking pretty.

Otherwise they've just made my brake feel slightly blunt.

It's a bit difficult to isolate to be honest - you might get as much benefit from a fluid change if your brakes use DOT.

As I've updated my brakes I went braided because

a) I was shelling out anyway so why not (got floating rotors too just because)
b) They look badass
c) Probably tougher
d) Maybe a better performing

.. though as these are X2s with tech levers replacing Minis I would sort of hope they are better.

I put them on some older Hays brakes and the difference was tremendous. I think the advantage is with braided hoses, not Goodridge per se.

I wonder how many people's issues are caused by incorrect bleeding after changing?

What is the weight increase from normal to braided?
