Long story short:

Bought my bike August last year.

This month, the rear bearings start to go, and the wheel starts to wobble.

Turns out that the lock ring in the hub is seized and can't be removed.

Warranty claim made to Specialized.

Message back saying that they don't have that hub or wheel in stock, but will authorize the purchase of a third party replacement.

I ask Specialized when they will have one in stock, thinking that I'll buy an upgrade wheelset in the meantime, and then keep the original as a spare/bike park set.

Message back saying that no date for getting one in stock.

I say ok then, this was a £6k bike, I'm not happy to have a mismatched wheelset on it, so can they take the front wheel back too?

Message back saying ok, no problem, happy to replace with a third party wheelset.

I'd heard that the Specialized warranty service was good, and I have to say I'm pleased.

Good work Toby at Specialized customer care, and the staff of The Cycle Centre in Congleton.

So did they give you a budget?

This sort of stuff is the reason we've bought a Specialized.

So did they give you a budget?

LBS suggested Hope Fortus 30 as a replacement, which seemed reasonable to me. I needed them by this weekend for a trip to the Alps, so wasn’t too bothered by shopping around.

Sounds like this was Toby's last day...I wouldn't have agreed to swapping the front out. 6k seems to be mod-range these days (which is disagree with but I still think 4k is far too much to pay for a bike).
Unless you spend time oggling your bike rather than riding it you won't see the difference. For other people it'll be a conversation starter so for those with vanity issues that should be an appeal due to more attention being given.
Good news on rear wheel being changed though, that allows you to get riding it much sooner. What budget did they give you?

speccy in canada have replaced my mates entire, 4 year old enduro when the rear triangle had an issue, as they no longer made them in that wheelsize.

After an impromptu dismantling session at chez Weeksy, I discovered the BB threads had vanished on my Diverge.
A week later she was built back up on a new frame 😎

Definitely adds some reassurance. (Even though it’s there in the price somewhere).

Always had good experience with Specialized which is why I've always ended up with them despite not being as "exotic" as other brands, I see them a bit like the Ford of the bicycle world. Some really nice bits if you've got the money, some standard middle of the road stuff then budget stuff that catches a wide market, their ford fiestas if you will. But the warranty imo is what's set them apart.

When I got back into riding again in 2011 I bought a second hand 2008 specialized pitch, 2nd ride out I slipped on a root and my arse landed on the rear triangle, cracking a chain stay and bending the rest of it, had to nose wheel walk the bike 9 miles home. Took it to my LBS who are also a specialized dealer to see what my options were, now bare in mind I didn't buy the bike from them and neither did the previous owner, but they still gave me almost warranty like service, they explained everything to their contact at specialized and came up with an arrangement to give me a whole new rear triangle for free as a "one off", I just had to pay labour to get them to fit it and do the other necessary work.

Bought my current bike from the same place and had lots of issues with that right out the door, clicky crown on forks, a dropper post that wouldn't hold air, wheels with burrs that kept giving me punctures in the tubes I was running at the time, bottom bracket shat it's self and left me stranded, . All of these were on seperate occasions over 6 weeks and they prioritised my bike over what I'd say were standard workshop jobs which had a weekly turnaround and just told me any problems, drop it straight off and they'll have it ready the next day which they did.

I'm drooling over other bikes lately but in the back of my mind is always the above and weighing up the current spesh offerings

Forgot to say in my moan early...it is good to see a company offer this level of support when you compare it to the likes of the recent Giant fiasco with warranty issues.

I bought a Diverge in 2020, about a year later one of the seatpost cradle screws snapped with no spares availability - they sent me a replacement S-Works post for the price of postage.

By contrast a friend is a semi-professional triathlete - on one group ride we were riding along and she nearly crashed when the seatstay on her Trek bike gave way. Whilst the dealer supported her claim, Trek declined the warranty claim, said it was irrepairable and she had to buy another.

So far they've been the best in terms of warranty for me

-2019 Enduro, bearing housing in swingarm debonded, replaced the whole back end. It then went on to spin its main pivot bearings, replaced the frame.

-2022 Kenevo Sl, on the 3rd motor. I ride a bit more than most and it gets ridden hard, drop the bike off and a few days later its all good to go again.

As a result I bought a Stumpy to replace my smuggler and will be picking up an Aethos (all the recent purchases have been from Certini, who are ace)

I would have never purchased a manual bike from this faceless corporate giant of a bicycle producer but bought their e-bike as it was reduced and had the largest battery at the time. It turned out to be the 'dodgy' one which Spesch took in their stride, replacing motors during the initial covid lock-down, when some manufacturer were just burying their heads in the sand. Then they increase the warranty length as apology. I didn't even think about looking at another manufacturers bikes, when it came time to replace my old one.  Top class service

Got nothing but good things to say about Spesh's warranty. I smashed a rear carbon rim, it was clearly my fault not a manufacturing defect and they just placed it, no questions, no hesitancy, I just wheeled it into the shop, they dealt with it all, and wheeled out my bike with a brand new rim.

Works just as advertised.

I had a rear on my kenevo sl that was looking like it was on its last legs. First option was hope fortus as specialized had no direct own brand replacement.

I'd echo the comments here as had great service from them, and even got to meet a couple of them when I did a cycling course face to face pre covid. All good people, apart from one who refused to touch a mountain bike, which I found funny, but he was a hardcore roadie.

To be fair also had great customer service from Scott (when a front derailleur mount peeled off a carbon frame, they replaced the frame all costs covered) and Rocky Mountain (exploded a rear fat bike hub x 2 and they replaced the wheel with a much better one).

However, Trek and Giant not so much.

My experience of spesh customer services

I bought a 5 year old tt frameset second hand which turned out to have microscopic cracks on the seat and chain stays. I contacted specialized customer services explaining it was second hand with zero expectations to see if they could do anything. the frame was so old they didn’t have any in stock, however they told me if I could get hold of the original proof of purchase they would send me a brand new venge disk frameset instead!

unfortunately I couldn’t ever get hold of the proof of purchase as the guy who sold it to me was a total knob, but the offer from spesh was exceptional

perhaps unsurprisingly, when it came to buying my next road frameset, I justified the sworks premium with the level of customer service that comes with it

contrast that with my experience of giant, whom I will never buy from again

Always had great service from Spech.
Replaced various bits over the last few years with no fuss.
Standard hub for Hope hub, various motors and some other stuff.
The last few weeks they've excelled themselves along with Race Co.

Two new Levos that had a problem from the off.
Both had motors and TCU's replaced the next day while we waited.
Then got an apology and some free stuff that wasn't exactly cheap.

Then we discovered the problem still hadn't gone away.
So now we were back home and 250 miles away from the shop...

No problems Adam from Spech drove up to us and loaded some new firmware on to the bikes for us.
Still a no go.
In the meantime Rich from Race co had already got some invisiframe installed on two new bikes just in case.
These were sent up to us next day along with some more free stuff. Again a fair amount of money's worth.
New bikes have been fine and Adam is driving up again tomorrow to collect the old bikes so they can try to figure out exactly what's wrong with them.

Don't think they could have dealt with it any better TBH. They even offered new bikes straight off the bat but I thought it only fair to let them try to fix the old ones first before going down that route.
It's the reason I'll only buy ebikes from Spech and specifically Race Co.
Absolutely brilliant service when things went wrong.

Compares well to the 3 year warranty, manufacturing error only on a Ti frame from a fashionably small boutique brand in another recent thread.
