Waiting for my new specialized road bike and I can finally give my HT a rest from 8.5 mile commute.

I need some nice stylish mtb shoes because I have a 1/4 mile walk when I get to work. I know I could carry slip on shoes in a bag and buy proper road shoes but I don't want to fart about when I get there.
The nice lady at specialized Birmingham branch told me to stay away from mtb shoes but it's my first road bike and I ain't no pro!

I had a similar query on here the other day. I've just ordered some mavic rush shoes which look pretty stealthy that I'm going to use on both road and mountain bike.

try bumping the thread then when its fallen off the front page, saves typing the same over again and again.just type in the thread and it'll appear back on the front page.
your best bet is still to get down the local shops, not just the one you area getting the bike from, look at stuff in the flesh and try stuff on. a lot of mountain bike shoes will be too stiff for walking in so maybe look at the touring shoes eg north wave fondo instead

Buy proper road shoes and leave a pair of flip flops where you keep the bike.

Cheers chaftvader will do. Never had to buy pedals or shoes before. People can't believe I've bought a bike that don't come with pedals, dimwits!

comfort is your friend with shoes. you will probably end up getting a different pair of shoes for winter too. stick with cheap shimano spds for the commute and like I said before, when it comes to proper road riding as opposed to commuting, get a decent pair of road pedals and road shoes. takes seconds to change pedals over.
edit most of the people I work with can't believe I ride a bike for fun and pay more for a single component than they payed at toys r us for their entire bike !

Any of the shimano range looks fine for riding on the road. People won't even notice until you unclip and they see your pedals.

Fine for walking in too.

I run spuds on the roadie. Actually prefer them to road shoes, on and (obviously) off the bike. People talk about hotspots etc. but with carbon soles that's all b@llox. All the big players have stiff+light+cool mtb shoes; Spesh, Shimano, Sidi et al. Try some on. I like my Spesh BG personally.
