A mountain biker in Bradford will face court summons for pulling a 180 metre long wheelie on a busy road.
The unnamed rider was followed for the duration of his wheelie by a Police district nuisance vehicle team on a motorbike who witnessed him weaving about on the bike.
Surely the rider needs an award not a court hearing!
They keep switching between 'manual' and 'wheelie' and throw in a picture of Chris Ball and a reference to Brendog?? When it was probably some [stereotype] local Bradford chav on a stolen bike [/stereotype]
Even so; court for a sodding wheelie? Seriously? Do the courts have that much free time?
Police district nuisance vehicle
Seems apt.
Why do skinny chavs seem to do this sort of thing effortlessly while I have trouble doing it for two metres?
Seems apt.
🙂
Surely they have better things to do. Fighting crime and stuff, maybe?
I really hope they have video evidence which gets shown in court and to which he gets a round of applause.
So rather than nip it in the bud, they follow him for 180 metres ...mmmm
Is it illegal to wheelie? What offence has he committed?
Everyone knows that the only people who can pull wheelies like that are 15 year old scrotes, on a stolen Specialized Rockhopper, on their way to drop off an ounce of skunk. 'Mountain bikers' are fat middle aged blokes who have problem enough staying upright with both wheels firmly on the ground 😀

I admire his ability, but the Police statement in the article linked explains it pretty fully.
A couple of likely lads in the village taught themselves to wheelie last summer. I could appreciate the skill required, I didn't appreciate following them in the car as they weaved across the road during the school run.
Like speeding and using a mobile phone, there's a time and place for it, and the public highway is not it. Cyclists aren't exempt from laws meant to reduce the risk of people hurting either themselves or other road users.
Police district nuisance vehicle team on a motorbike
I would say this sounds more dangerous. How do you safely get a whole police team on a motorbike that is seemingly by their own admission a nuisance vehicle?
I for one am glad he's feeling the full force of the law.
Bradford is heavily populated with some sort of super-scroat, capable of making otherwise remarkably-talented riders like myself merely look average at best when it comes to wheelies.
This HAS forced me to move to another country where no-one wheelies, as getting the front wheel of a Dutch shopper off the ground is similar to raising an sunken ship. Also from the height attained, a Dutch person would see the curvature of the earth, and have to have a little nap to recover.
To be fair though, he won't have been dropping off an Oz, as a he was riding a bike and not driving a S3 or GTi.
Do Marzocchi forks help?
Yes the sheer weight of them makes it impossible to loop out.
great to see the police tackling real crime and criminals
'Do Marzocchi forks help?'
Clearly the fear of being 'owned' by said brand, stopped any immediate intervention. They probably couldn't get the armed response unit there in time.
Bradford Bombers?
I think his defence should be that only a really skilled cyclist would be able to manage such a feat. Anyone who couldn't demonstrate similar skills shouldn't be on the road at all.
I wonder how that would go down with the beak?
Not really related - but I'll never forget driving down an empty dual carriageway at night at 60ish mph...then I hear a motorbike ...who comes alongside me and then pops up the front wheel and proceeds to burns off at about 80mph doing a wheelie for about 200m....I was both impreassed and scared for him/her....
A mate got pulled over by the fuzz while doing a no handed wheelie past a pub carpark full of bikers.
They were quite impressed with his mad skillz following their patrol car like that.
