I am foolishly building an xc/am version of my 2006 bullit.Trying to see how light I can make it whilst still having a bike that has a degree of hooligan about it. I'm committed to this plan so no funny suggestions please.

So I need a recommendation on brakes with plenty of power but not too heavy. I like the idea of Saints, but I think that's a bit muich, so 4 piston jobs are out unless someone has developed an uber light set.

Any advise gratefully received. Love and peace to all.

They're not heavy.

any lightweight brake with big (preferably floating or aluminium) rotors, there'll be no modulation though.

mini pros or tech x2 with 180mm rotors would do the job! or formula R1's uber light but tough brakes

http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/disc-brake-systems/product/r1-brake-09-32765

cost a lot though!

Why? I thought bigger rotors enhanced modulation!

Magura Louise with 203mm rotors. Like chucking an anchor out the back, and not much heavier than XTs 🙂

big rotors usualy give much less modulation, smaller pistons give more modulation, hence why big brakes have multiple pistons.

Formula "the ones" - Nowt to touch them for power to weight ratio.

MBUK has a brake test this month, think it's Formula One's and Magura Louise BATs that get the nod. Surprised the new Hope's didn't get much love.
