Caberston/Golfie trails update:
Here’s the latest info – direct from FES MTB ranger Andy Wardman – honestly it’s in everyone’s best interests if this advice is followed – we’ll get back on the trails sooner that way. Here's what he says:
The felling work is now higher up the main forest road, and right on the main up path (Foot Fault etc) to the reservoir, with timber being extracted down this and stacked along the road. So this area is closed at the moment.
By early May we should be able to reopen this climb path up (near Flat White) so riders can again access the top of the hill.
The other way up – the path at the Rocky end - as well as Old Skool DH and other descents that drop away from the road in the work area will need to stay closed until end of June.
The final section of road up to the start of Flat White is also currently closed but we are hoping to move the site threshold by Tues or Wed so we can reopen Flat White and give riders a descent option.”
Bottom line is there is very limited riding available at the Golfie until May at least, so best bet is just to avoid it for now. In most places the forestry workers have made efforts to respect and avoid damage to bike trails - all of which are unofficially built in any case - which is much appreciated.
Final summary from Andy: “The operators are having unsafe situations with riders coming in to their work zone and it’s also delaying the work. We all want everyone to stay safe and the work to be completed sooner.

In everyone's interest to respect the work area, and maintain a good relationship with FC.

Absolutely, not as if there's nothing else to ride in the Valley.
