Can anyone tell me what the ride is like back from the Golfie over the hills to Glentress. The lad and me are staying at the Glentress lodges and we'll be riding the Golfie both days.... I'd rather ride round than use the car, I know there's the route down by the river but I've had a look at my maps and see that theres a forest road route over the hill. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean via north up the B709 then via Leithen Lodge and up to the mast at Dunslair its plenty rideable- estate road then a grassy farm track up the hill from Williamslee, then whichever GT trail down to the lodges.

Whether you'd want to is another question- For me I'd use the leg power for another run at the Golfie, then back along the cycle path.

Back along the cyclepath is what the lad and I did after an Ice Cream in Innerleithen.

As above, having done both routes I'd stick to the cycle path

I've ridden/hiked from Gladhouse Reservoir to Glentress before. The actual forestry and fire roads (that you'd come east towards) between Bowbeat Hill and the top of Dunslair Heights is actually pretty lovely stuff.

The remote and unloved Moorfoots giving way to very quiet and overlooked lumpy forestry, some big ups and downs, then quite suddenly being at the top of a bustling trail centre.

Maybe overall its a different vibe (I love remote and seldom visited places) but if you want a sense of the place it's worth doing...
