You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Self internet diagnosis, as you do... never played golf, so it must be from riding?
The pain from it is ruining my riding and therefore my mental health is suffering badly. Luckily it doesn't hurt nearly so much on the gravel bike - probably down to position, but mainly as the riding is smoother.
I will get professional help, but in the middle of treatment for something else, so trying not to burden the good old NHS!
In the meantime, anyone else had it and found good ways to ease/cure it?
Probably best to narrow down what is causing it, i played a lot of golf and weight training a few years back when i hate it, and it was pretty much bad form on pull ups / chin ups with my grip, i just had to limit doing that stuff, strengthen forearms (powerballs, exercises with light weights, etc) and of course rest.
Best bet for biking is really to work out if you are gripping poorly causing this, and if you can change certain things, you can get revgrips if it's bad, or different grips, you can use a strap/brace to specifically target that area and help support it through activity and so on. I did find the brace pretty unusable for biking though.
Best bet though, sports physiotherapist, i found a couple of visits to give me the correct info, and a referral for the doctors for something else, but if you need an injection or the likes, a letter from a sports physio works!

thanks argee. Don't think I've been doing much differently in the way of riding - maybe more hardtail riding has done it, hard to pinpoint when it started though.
Docs online referral probably best bet. I've had 3 of those in the past year, so feel a bit of a hypochondriac putting another one in!
IIRC golfers elbow effects one muscle and tennis elbow effects t’other. All my years playing golf I never got it, however I got golfers elbow from throwing logs around.

It's the usual problem sticking tennis or golf in the title, golfers is on the inside (medial) and tennis on the outside (lateral), it's basically just very small tendons that attach the muscles from your forearms to your elbow that take the brunt of any repetitive strain.
I've suffered a few times over the years, played golf and tennis for years, so who'd have thunk it! I see a lot of folk suffer it from cricket, weights and elsewhere, it's a nightmare to manage, as you are constantly using all those interlinked muscles and tendons in your wrists, arms, etc, isolating it is nearly impossible if you still want to do stuff.
Again, Sport Physio, see who are recommended in the area, they are specialists, going to the doctors is just hoping your GP has knowledge of this stuff, and doesn't just send you off with a prescription for the most expensive ibuprofen you'll buy.
So I think I had Tennis Elbow (outside tendon issue).
It came on a few months after I started riding my old hardtail with a rigid fork. I use that bike for skills practice: Wheelies/Manuals/Stoppies/Pivoting/Hopping etc...
I decided that the repeated impacts and slightly different grip on the bars had exacerbated a slightly weak muscle/tendon. I rehabilitated it with stretching and flexing of the hand/forarm and I have since done some gentle strengthening exercises.
Someone on here (search for the thread) linked to a website which had exercises that should help :o)

Did your doctor prescribe two weeks of only watching Laura Davies golf videos ;o)
Just recovered from it, as far as I can make out doing a road trip to Scotland caused it.
went for a few physio sessions and it did seem to help, the main exercise I was given was to hold a 1kg weight, arm outstretched and slowly drop your wrist and raise it. Working up to 80 reps.
Apparently the studies for that sort of exercise for treating Achilles tendons.

You can't see a physio under the NHS without doing a GP referral online. I can't afford private healthcare (or get insurance for it!)
Cheers for the exercise. I'll try it đŸ™‚ (er, just did. ffs my shoulder is so weak from old injuries I couldn't hold the weight with the arm outstretched đŸ˜† I'll try something lighter!)

Was that with palm up?
I've been googling as I get it from time to time and any time I try to get back to pull ups. The exercise I saw was an eccentric one where you'd put your forearm, palm up, over a chair back or table, lower the weights slowly down (so your wrist is bending backwards) and then use the other hand to raise it back up. That is same principles as the eccentric heel drops for achilles issues.
The other thing was a forearm stretch, pulling fingers and hand back to stretch the inner forearm, but they said the eccentric weight lowering was the main thing, along with avoiding what caused it and rest.
I can feel the pull in the sore tendon's with longdog's exercise. Not the other though.

Who?
Google's.....
Good lord!
I strongly recommend you avoid any Grace Charis golf content on YouTube unless you want to risk permanent injury and also possibly loss of eyesight.
