I'm ordering my Specialized 2bliss ready tyres for my Mavic UST rims. Just wondering which sealant I should go for, and how much of it (26" 2.1 and 2.3)? I think the Specialized 2bliss tyres don't need sealant to seal the tyres, just fix punctures?
Got Mavic presta valves as well. Is the core supposed to come out and you put the sealant in through the valve?
Should be "out of the 80's" by the end of the week 8)
I use stans, it works. Use about 150ml or you just a good squidge of the stuff. You can either take the core out or just pour some into the tyre before putting the last bit of the tyre on the rim.
Thanks, will pick up some Stans on my way home tomorrow. So many mixed reviews for all of the products, hard to know which to use, especially as a lot of the negative reviews are for none tubeless tyres.
+1 for stans sealant. I usually use 3oz in a virgin (ie. Never been spaffed in) tyre. I always seat the tyre first without sealant, using soapy water to lube the beads, then pop one side off, squirt in the sealant, re-seat the bead, inflate and then do 'the stans dance'. Have a good look at the videos on stans website and you shouldn't go far wrong.
People think way too much about this. Don't unscrew valve cores... just pour some into the tyre before you seat the second side of it. Also, just glug in enough so that you think it will coat the whole tyre, using your eye to judge. It's not science really.

I unscrew the valve cores?
Tyre is already seated why would i unseat it lever it off and risk spilling aealant all over the shop because something doesn't go to plan?
Agree with davewalsh.glasgowdan
I actually tend to seat them without fluid first too, just for comforts sake. Then it's really quick to unseat one bead for a few inches and just chuck in some fluid (usually 90ml for me) and reinstall.
To answer the later q - I am happy undoing a bit of bead to pour fluid in because i find it easier. Others will do the valve thing. i prefer not to as in my experience it speeds up the valve getting gunked up.
In short - it probably doesn't really matter.
Have used Stans, have used Fenwicks, both to good effect.
Thanks all. Stans it is and I'll be seating the bead first as it's bad enough doing normal tyres this with a tube in on the UST rims. If thats easy I'll pour it straight into the tyre, otherwise it'll stay on and go through the valve!
Will watch Stans videos as well.
Cheers.
Anybody used Decathlon sealant which seems way cheaper than most of the others?
About 120ml should be plenty. I seat the tyre without sealant then use a Stan's syringe thing to squirt the sealant in the valve (core removed). Takes seconds and is less faff than getting the bead off again (certainly on some tyre/rim combos anyway). And no it doesn't help speed up the valve getting gunked up doing it that way.
I usually have to inflate the tyre with a tube and leave it for a few hours before trying to get it on tubeless. You may get away with it with a specialized though.
I have just gone the same route and found it no more difficult to seat the specialised tyres on mavic ust then any other tyre and rim. Mine go down after a few days though, especially the rear.
