After asking on here for tubeless tyre recommendations recently, I ordered all the bits I needed for the conversion.
Big thanks to Merlin Cycles - All in stock and quick delivery.
2 sets of rims. Planned to have 1 set with a 'summer' and 'roadish' tyre and 1 set with a more 'knarley' tyre.
1. Fulcrum 7
Bought Schwalbe G-One Allround MicroSkin TL tyre.
Wrapped the rim tightly with Stans tape. Working in a warm room, and with the rim on a carpeted floor helps pull it tight and form it into the well of the rim. Overlapped valve hole by approx 70mm each side.
Pierced the valve hole in the tape and pushed the valve through.
Little bit of car & m.cycle tyre soap, and went on a dream - by hand, no levers.
Nice tyre.
Inflated with tyre inflater on the compressor air line.
The beads popped right into place with a satisfying crack.
With 50psi in, I then sprayed a weak soapy solution all around, looking for leaks.
None.
Deflated, valve core out (using an 8BA o/e spanner).
Filled 2oz of Stans sealant into the tyre.
Re-inflated.
SUCCESS
2. Standard Kinesis Crosslight times.
Tubeless ready with tape already fitted. Just added extra length tape over valve hole.
Pierced tape and fitted valve.
Now the tyre that I want to use is a Vee Tire T-CX, and is the tyre originally fitted from new by Kinesis, and has been used with a tube in it.
Fitted the tyre, and the rear popped the beads on straight away.
Sprayed with soap solution, and air hissing out from all around the tread blocks area. During the few minutes that I had 50 psi in there, the tyre started delaminating. A blister the size of a golf ball appeared......
The front tyre fitted and I could just not get it to inflate, air was leaking out everywhere. Even with 2 pairs of hands and then another operating the tyre inflater I could just not get air in it. Seems that using tubes previously in this tyre had made it really'baggy' and no amount of pinching together would help in getting the air in.
FAILURE
I then discovered that Halfrauds stock a tube ready filled with sealant. Bought a pair of them. The valves have a removable core, which means that sealant can be added in the future.
Fitted these as a halfway house, until the T-CX wear out, then re-consider at that time.
Thought I would just share the experience.....
Is the veetire tubeless ready and how old?
You could try contacting Veetire?
Tbh, with the Vee delaminating and blebbing like that, I wouldn’t be waiting for the tread to wear out. Sounds like a tyre ready to fail without warning.
@bren2709. Tyres are more than a year old, seen quite a bit of use, and have had tubes in from new.(I'm suspecting the tubes have stretched the tyre).
@vincienup. I am actually going to scrap that tyre as it turns out.
