I have WTB ST i25 32H tubeless ready rims. Do I need tin tape or not? Conflicting information. Someone told me I do and someone else said as tubeless ready I don't?
Yes, it will need rim tape (yellow stuff - Stans, or Tesa generic stuff from eBay), valves and fluid. I have WTB KOM i29 and they are very simple and easy to get sealed. I don't suppose the ST version is much different in this regard.
edit: I used to recommend this kit for when people were starting out with tubeless as it contains exactly what you need and nothing else, for a good price. Sadly, it seems to no longer be sold, but at least you can see what you need.
You'll need some form of tape to to create an airtight seal over the spoke holes - Stans Yellow, Tesa 4289, Gorilla tape, insulating tape... Depending on how snug your tyres fit on the rims, the tape may also help build up the rim diameter so the tyre is a tighter fit
Strange. The guy who said he didn't use it has been riding for years and said he didn't use tape. Is it maybe certain rims that don't need the tape?
I've had two sets of 'tubeless ready' rims and all needed tape.
Only true, full UST like old Mavics etc don't need tape (or a rim strip, or something). But these days pretty much everything is "tubeless ready". The WTBs absolutely do need tape on account of all the holes. Sometimes if you buy wheels they'll be pre-taped but more often than not they have cloth tape or similiar which is fine for tubes but not tubeless.
As above^^ only UST rims that have solid rim beds (ie no spoke holes) can be built up without rim tape

I had thought looking at that the spoke holes were in a section which were separate from where the tyre is sealed in the bottom section. I take it the holes go through the middle section as well?
Next question is does anyone know if 35mm or 44mm valves would be best for these rims
