You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I know it depends on terrain, fitness, strength etc but(!), I used a 16T on my 26era while back, and from memory, it was OK. I tend to be a spinner and it's getting muddy, so ...
Moving onto a 29er, will 16T be relatively tougher than on a 26?
And does a couple of teeth make a real world difference?
Thanks
2t up on a 29er SS so 32:18 instead of 32:16 as a rough rule of thumb.
1 on the back is worth 3(ish) up front.
and 2 in kate bush is worth 1 in the hand
If you want to go 20t I've got a brand new in the packet surly 20t cog for sale
35-20 is a nice ratio for everything
I run 34/ 18 if that means anything. If you want the science bit go to the tech part of the G-sport web site. Alot of torque on those little teeth.
Thanks all ... Steve_b77 - ygm but interested. Make and price? Cheers

Assuming you've got a 32 up front, 18 is a good place to start. 32-20 is pretty low for normal trail riding down south.
Sam ... it's for my Pegasus which is still gorgeous. Be intrigued to try it ss. Maybe I need to man-up!
32-19 for most North Yorkshire riding for me, Worth buying a couple of cogs and trying them out,
