Trying to decide which wheelset to buy.
I'm so close to clicking buy now on a pair of these
http://www.amclassic.com/en/products/roadwheels/sprint350.php
But all these reviews of them going out of true and the bearings being terrible and the poor braking and the noises and poor rim life etc. etc. etc. are holding me back.
I want someone to tell me it's all in the past and that all the problems are sorted now.
Or to show me a similar weight wheelset for a similar price (around £400).
Shimano rs80 C24.Dura ace rims with ultegra hubs,I've got the c24's and c50's.The full dura ace wheels are nice (digital cone adjustment and ti freehub) but the small weight difference ain't worth all the extra money (and I could of had the DA if I wanted them).
Already looked at those, can get them for about the same money (minus a free pair of tubes and tyres). But they're about 100g heavier, even if they are possibly more reliable...
It's all in the past and the problems are all sorted now.
HTH
I dunno if Yeti is being serious but.. Am classic were notorious for bad bearings about 10 years ago but they fixed it - and for some reason the internet is still awash with these allegations.
I have to disagree with Molgrips there. Am Classic's 58 front road hub has possibly the smallest bearings in the world and they really don't last long. Get the shimanos, no point having lighter wheels if they feel hexagonal shaped whilst you're riding!
Well this hasn't helped at all. Think I'm leaning towards the rs80s.
All of the weight saving with the am-classics are in the hubs, you'll find the rs80's 'feel' lighter to ride. The ride quality of the carbon/ali rims on the shimanos is much better aswell (ridden back to back with mavic kysrium sl's and fulcrum 1's).
The bearings in the am-classics are very small which is why they are so light but its the freehub mechanism that puts me off.A 'stylus' and indented plate engages all the pawls simultaneously....until they wear or the plate get dirty and sticks.WTB used the same system and it was a PITA (they were oem on santa cruz's for a while and I had to fix a lot under warranty).
Thats my 2p's worth anyhoo.
Cheers, think you just pushed me over the edge. RS80s it is.
