Looking for a cheapy go-pro clone to film some stuff for my sons school work, whats the current go to product?
Anybody get one of the £30 aldi ones, are the any good?
TIA Paul
Why bother with a clone, get a 2nd hand GoPro off eBay, use it then flog it.
sj4000 is a very good alternative. Buy off Amazon to ensure non fakeyness.
I always find Tech Moan the place to go for impartial advice on off-brand cameras. I've got a £23 dash cam that has run without fault for 3 years+ parked behind glass in a country where temperatures are very often 45deg+. He suggests the:
From somewhere like this. 3-4 wait as standard unfortunately.
As mac say's the SJ4000 is a good rip-off if you make sure you get an original rip-off not a fake ...
For decent light however I have a Amkov 4000 or something, cost me £40 ages ago and it works really well and came with loads of accessories.. Its been used snorkelling to 10m or so.... and not a drop... and its been abused on the bike.
If you don't want or need (or have space on your HDD for) 60 fps at 4k... then it's pretty good for most stuff when there is half decent light.
I also have a GoPro Hero 5 Black..... and its better in every way ... (except accessories) but it's only a "bit better" in most ways.
Eldest_OAB just bought a Shimano Action cam from ProBikeKit - it was £62 a couple of weeks ago, now back up to £99.
The images are superb, easy to set up, and the app to check direction of pointing, if you captured a scene etc is great.

Got a Eken H9SE on ebay a couple of years ago as the kids wanted one and I wasn’t going to get them a go pro! £25 and if it’s rubbish they won’t care.....
It’s been great, picture quality’s very good and due to it’s cheapness it’s been everywhere, including a number of dips in the sea. Added bonus being you can connect your phone to it and control it from that while also seeing what it’s recording which is handy when placing it in tricky places etc. Only gripe is battery life’s only 2 hours.
You can also import the vids into the Quik (go pro) app and make yourself some funky edits.
Saw these at the bike show last year and they look pretty damn good

SJCam's are fine, as is the QMOX (which is another branch of SJCam).
I have 2 QMOX/ M10's and a SJCAM M20. The QMOX shows as SJCam when you boot it.
Quality is good, the M10's were about £25, but the M20 is closest to gopro, but is about £90.
Speshpaul, where are you? I could lend you a gopro if you are in central Scotland.
Oldtennisshoes.
Thanks for the offer, and its very tempting to nip up. But I'm in sunny Shropshire.
I've been looking at the Eken H9R recently. (mic on camera - the H9 has no mic but includes a mic port).
Looks pretty good in 1080p60 mode from the videos I've seen.
Cheap, but long wait from China probably
I have an sj4000 but not used it yet. Dads wood turning club has a couple as close up cameras for demos when the lathes are turning linked up to a pair of tv’s and are very happy with them.
The Gitup Git2 does a good job for me, cheapish, good quality, firmware updates still coming out, accessories easy to get hold of (all the gopro stuff fits, from batteries to waterproof cases) no real negatives other than the android app was a bit rubbish, although I believe it has recently had an update
Yi 4K looks like the best one to me
