Can I request videos of cavedale, the beast and Jacobs ladder.
Can I request a box-set of these plus the 2015 Megavalanche for next Christmas?

Well clearly Hora, you must be a much better rider than me, the OP and anyone else that has commented on the steepness of that last section.

Which let's face it, is what you really want and that is for everyone to think that you da man!

I wish I was you, it must be ace. 🙄

Never ridden there but looks like he enjoyed it which is the main thing is it not?

I'm sure we've all bottled various bits of trail or made poor line choices over our riding history, if not you must be some sort of mtb legend.. Or possibly fall off an awful lot.

Thanks to OP for posting and thanks to the maker of the video. 🙂

Reminded me: Anybody got a link of the Russian(?) guy just losing his sh1t on a trail while his mate holding the camera just chuckled the whole way through? He was trying to climb an innocent looking trail, ended by throwing his bike in the trees. Sure I saw it here, a while back through.

Maybe the right line needs spray painting on??? Maybe bollards to protect the rest....

Are we allowed to walk through mud is that ok?

Fair point.

If riders are new to wild country, the transition from trail centres to proper navigation is tricky. Perhaps a dot-to-dot trail marking system made from everyday objects like energy gel wrappers, empty cans of Red Bull and old inner tubes could work?

You would obviously have to consult with the STW Elite to determine which is the acceptable line choice of course.

We can't have you putting the bollards in any old place, you might crush a blade of grass or ruffle some heather.

I have to say that I was very curious as to why he preferred the muddy/slippy line to the drier/rocky one.

And then I watched this...

I remember a pootle along cut gate once. Someone :oops:at the front took that line and lots of people followed instead of taking the left hairpin and zig-zagging down. Given that a pootle is a fairly average spread of riders and a big enough group to be "statistically significant", then I'd say the "average" rider doesn't take that route down. Maybe all the dhwc heros might like to keep that in mind.

He sounds like he's having a cracking time of it though.

@benjii - as a walker/hiker you are taught to stick to the path for exactly the same reason, to avoid excessive erosion

Ha ha well that brightened up my afternoon even if his prattling was doing my head in by the end. He'd definately be at home in whistler with all the whoops on his way down the trail. Best line from the whole video is towards the end when he comes out with the classic "we're all going to die" LMFAO. Seriously!!

My only criticism is that his handle bars don't look wide enough to be in with the Gnar crowd

I was running 160 pikes on a 29er.

It was wet and muddy.

There were sections that were and I repeat 'gnarly'.

I had low pressure.

That end bit was after three and a half hours ****ing around up on the moors. I was pickled.

Im 34 so **** u.

If you wanna get into a technical debate about irrelevant stuff then rant away but ffs be tactful with your insults.

Please can I see some of your videos as well and then we could probably have rational discussion. Otherwise its pure speculation on the mountain.

forexpipz

Whilst I stand by my defense of you against all the postulating and willy waving, I distance myself from the "I'm 34 so **** U" bit.

I'm not clear why you keep mentioning how old you are? Is it because you think 34 is too old to be riding this stuff (in which case you really are on the wrong forum) or you are too young to know any different (in which case you should know 34 really isn't that young anymore, soz)?

Shame on you!!

You were doing so well until the very very end when you deviated from the official line!!! Why would you take the more interesting line with the drop off rather than the one the trail builders had tirelessly toiled over.

At least it wasn't wet and muddy otherwise I might just explode at your selfishness/ineptitude!!

Just for the record I didn't actually walk up to a sheep and say hey. You mind if I just couple up the water filter to your bits so I can re-charge.

Seriously. I put the water filter in a river. Believe what you will but unless i'm seriously de-hydrated I don't normally go round raping sheep with water filters.

I enjoyed that video with the commentary/sound, not often you get commentary! I would imagine this is what some of my friends would be saying to themselves if I took them.

34 is still young, I'm turning 34 soon, still young and still learning new things!! 😀

Some of my videos, but no idea how this rationalises peoples comments/opinions Warning: There is probably the use of "gnarly" and definately "Epic" so if you are an easily offended STW'er (thats everyone).. Don't watch. 😉

To be fair, back in the day before Camelbaks I did fill up my water bottle in the stream at the bottom of Roych Clough. It had little swimmy things in. I drank it anyway, I was desperate.

I didn't even post this yet I find myself getting sucked in.

Incidentally does anyone know why when I extract a gopro file through gopro studio into an avi it only loads an eigth of footage into premiere pro cc.

Its driving me nuts because I would like to edit the video with a few stills of me planting trees and upholding the countryside code.

To the haters. Wait till its dry. I'll be back. With some epic fails.

I'd be up for that. High winds or rain and its the peaks worst trail. Dry its stunningly brilliant. Makes you feel like your carving. To avoid the wind/rain today I rode beast/Hope cross/gores figure of 8.

Forexpipz, you should be able to just drag n drop a GoPro video file straight into Premiere. You shouldn't need to do anything to get into Premiere.

I thought forexpips film was very entertaining, mainly due to the comentary. **** a duck was a highlight for me.
I wouldn't knock him at all,and agree that he's getting out and having fun which can only be a good thing.
I find most go pro vids dull. Including the one of mike mincing down that trail.
I think I would rather ride the trail in mikes film though. Where is that mike?

But pebbles at Cannock are his kryptonite! Now that's a dangerous ride where there is no traction.

I've only ridden Cut Gate once, but the vid makes the steeper bits look pretty flat. At least he was having fun although I'm guessing anyone who saw him out riding and talking to himself like that probably thought he was bat sh1t mental.

Same shit different thread !

Find some one to try and make yourselves look better and if ridicule doesn't stroke your ego resort to spell checking and typo's.

Some of you clearly have too much time on your hands, try riding a bike! It's not that difficult then at least when you comment the 90% of none Forum Elite Riding Gods will probably believe what you spout on about.

Poisonspyder, you are clearly a Bike Rider. Hora, my guess is that you too are fairly decent on a bike.

For those that ride bikes I'm sure you can tell who does and who does not partake in your chosen activity.
Heaven forbid you should listen to some of these ****s on here, you don't have to be elite you just have to enjoy yourself. Some people don't like you to enjoy yourself whilst riding, it makes you say things and take the long line!

It makes you have a big grin and aching legs, it makes the Tea & Cake taste better, it makes that Pint worthwhile and fish n chips taste that bit better. It gets you out with mates, it gets you off your computer and out of the house where you have to meet people and speak to others, it also helps find out the Walters.

Feel free, While you're reading this conjouring up your witty response and highlighting the errors to take ANY opportunity you can to make yourselves look good, sound intelligent, appear better than the rest of the biking fraternity. You deserve it because being as good as you are takes a special kind of person!

My 'issue' is the creation (and riding in) the wider and increasing number of lines around the central or clearly the original trail. I can understand why on Hope cross as the puddles around 2ft etc deep in parts. But on a trail? It creates an eyesore which looks like cut throat bridge

Then why not make that the 'issue' in a thread of its own?

Rather than bringing it up in a humorous thread that was simply intended to celebrate someone getting his MTB rocks off riding down something 'gnarly'?

It just looks petty and an attempt to do the bloke down when he should be congratulated for embracing the spirit of just getting out there.

Jam bo- that was taken 4months after I was put IN hospital with a broken arm/shoulder and concussion. How does that make you feel posting that?

Poisonspider it wasn't posted/ topic wasn't started by the person who created the vid though (and then uploaded it to a public media). So your point isn't valid. Someone posts a vid and it features something that irks you then you are surely on topic?

You ride to enjoy your ride. When you start recording it and upload it to a public media for other blokes to see then you've got to expect blokes to be blokes. Ever been out in a pub and ripped into or been ripped into for laughs? Its normal. I've had fantastic rides and I've also had average rides, anything you photo just looks flatter and not steep at all to those who weren't there (man) anyway.

In general - I always say I aint going to pay your mortgage and vice versa so ride it or don't/its your call 🙂

I'll re-iterate what I have already said.

I came from an on-one limited edition single speed bike in 29" format onto an spec enduro comp evo 29er.

Imagine my excitement when I got bouncy bits fore and aft plus gears.

I hadn't been this excited since the 800mm bar and Brooks saddle worked alongside one another.

So yeah. In my extremely limited understanding of 'gnarly' it was to me.

I have been riding rigid with one gear and flat pedals for ages now so the change was immense.

Go ape shit on the negative comments if you like because I will still wake up every single day, have a black coffee and live and breath bike related design. Plus the occasional 'gnarly' wet riding.

If you don't get passionate about something then don't do it. The equations are not difficult. Passion = happiness. Its that simple.

In the future if you wanna insult somebody then your method of delivery and timing have to be - lets say ... more tactful.

I'm happy because many people on this forum felt the need and got quite vocal in my defence so for that a big thanks. To the haters. Have a nice day.

You do realise that my post above was in good nature right? Right or wrong I do that whenever I see any 29'er rider and I'll always make a good natured comment to a fatbiker or a gaggle of Orange bike riders. Its good fun and I'd take it back (especially as I went on to own a said-Orange bike). One day I may even own a 29'er.. I'm already on the route to a 650b.
