This coming Saturday (5th Dec) is the next annual Global Fat Bike Day. Folk right round the world will be celebrating by riding (solo or in groups) and posting photos.

It started when fatbikes were niche but had begun to catch on, had been over the peak and is still running.

Anyone on here have plans?

I'll likely be out on Saturday solo and then be meeting up with a few folk at Glenlivet on Sunday 6th (Covid compliant). I was hoping for some snow but it looks like I'll be disappointed.

Hoping for a bit more of this at the weekend. Feldberg, Germany. The bumpy bits on the horizon are the Swiss Alps: Eiger, Jungfrau etc etc.

Depends on which forecast you look at - I'm up the road from Glenlivet and it's showing snow for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

My own trouble is my fat bike's in storage and this will be the first GFBD since 2013 I've missed....might have to go and get it.

Going to run a small, North Norfolk beach ride, unfortunately not knowing where we stood on group size, means i've only really broadcast it today, but going to be 2-3 of us riding along the coast

I'll be going around solo at my local woods. There was a planned ride but local covid restrictions have made that difficult.....

Oooh, I'd forgotten about GFBD!  But I'd already arranged a ride on the "brown snow" in Cheshire.

I'll be out fatbiking, somewhere.

Hoping for suitable fatbike weather. If not, I'll find a bog to play in...

Edit: Just saw Esme's "brown snow", that's it! 🙂

There'll be 6 of us (conveniently) doing a tier two ride into the woods for a socially distanced brew up on Saturday

There is a dude I see now and again riding the roads on an orange coloured fattie in Warwick.
No helmet, no beard, so I don't think it's you.

The New Forest superwide six-pack will be in effect, sloshing through the slop and sipping cider in the sunshine*

Sadly missing meeting up with the Swanage crew this year, we'll make up for it next time.

*Unlikely

Beautiful sunny day here in Cheshire, perfect for slithering around in the mud.
Two of us, riding a Spesh Fatgirl (aka Hellga) and a Charge Cooker.
Hope you all had as much fun?

Overnight rain has made all the remaining snow very soft and mushy. Massive puddles everywhere and you can never be sure what you're riding on.

Undaunted, Ross and I made a beeline for the Duke of Gordon monument. The climb up was interspersed with much swearing and I had to stop to let some air out of the tyres I think I ended up with about 6 psi in the front and 3 in the rear. A it of footwork got us there and then it was a very sketchy, but also hilarious, descent and return home. A whole 22km in something over 2 hours 🙂

Does it count if I grab my Wazoo out of the garage and ride around the block with just the left pedal (because the driveside crank sheared through the pedal axle in summer)? 😆

Snowmaggeddon in the Cotswolds!

Massive drifts that only a fatbike can navigate!

We had snow yesterday but by this morning it had all gone. I took a guess that up at Ribblehead there might be some left. We struck lucky! 😀

Heading up to Cam Head from Ribblehead

gfbd

Now into the snowline

gfbd

There was quite a bit of drifting so some bits were rideable ...

gfbd

Others weren't!

gfbd

We had intended to head over to Hawes then back by Widdale to the top of Arten Gill and the Pennine Bridleway but we weren't progressing that fast, nearly two hours to get to the top of Cam Head, so decided to cut down to Newby Head via the PBW.

gfbd

Most of the first kilometre or so was pushing, we were knee deep in snow at times.

gfbd

Eventually we managed to start riding more and more but the depth of the soft snow often meant hard pedalling even going downhill.

gfbd

gfbd

gfbd

gfbd

gfbd

We then took a BW to get back to Ribblehead but this was well below the thaw line so a mixture of wet snow and mud.

gfbd

Not far, just 18km but pretty hard work.

Global FatBike Day, so it's compulsory to go out even though the weather was biblical. All the snow on the higher ground had gone. I was contemplating building an ark.

The sky was so dark it was like twilight in the middle of the day, but there was hope. Some lucky person was under that tiny blue patch in the sky over in the distance.

All the melted snow was rushing down the mountain.

Every little burn was showing its ambitions to become a river.

The trails were a trifle damp...

But the fun was awesome.

(Sorry about the pic. It was so dark every pic was a long exposure,)

Mud fest here by Bodensee / Lindau. Left the snow and dropped down to meet a friend for the ride. Wet, mud, wet with wet mud. But hey, we are out had a great trail expresso, Jagermeister, Brotchen with cheese and slices of cold but exquisite pizza..

He was riding an e-fat so that was interesting and on the flat we were doing 19 - 22kmh... and he monstered the uphills, I took a little longer....

I think for bio bike riding with an e-bikerist, setting a max speed before we start is the way to go. Constantly playing catch up isn't that much fun.
