At long last i have a day off tomorrow and was going to drive down to GT for a mince about.....are most of the trails ridable at a decent lick or is it a waste of an hours plus drive?
Can Any locals give me an upto date weather report?
Thanks in advance
JB
Bloody freezing!
Not sure of the trails though, although our group are night-riding there later...
black climb was a nightmare on monday, really wet slippery snow, not nice and crispy grippy snow. took an amazing 2 hours to get to the mast. no idea what it is like now though!
I was there on Sunday, it was awesome fun but bloody slippy in places... Spooky wood was ace as always, but driftastic at times!
No idea what the weather has been upto up there since..
Aye very slippy on sunday. It's apparently snowing heavily in innerleithen right now so i suspect it will be a fresh drop at GT
Went round the black yesterday, there was1-2" of snow at the mast, the majority of it was rideable on the ay up but there were some pretty slippery sections, getting pretty difficult on the last section to the top. We were able to ride everything on the way back down but it was no where near normal pace. I was a little hesitant to fly round a corner to find a patch of ice to slide down.
The snow was fairly grippy though, not too wet so I was able to get up he majority of the climbs with my Nobby Nic on the back. It was a really nice day and good to be out on the bike though.
Great stuff guys, cheers for the info..... Wasn't going to bother doing the black, maybe a couple of red circuits.
b r - could you let me know how you get on tonight please?
Cheers 😀
Better than I was wexpecting then, cheers- not working tomorrow, might nip down. I'd assume it'd all be snow-melt-death-ice now.
It's been a mild 4 degrees and raining down here in Cardrona Village, we didn't get the snow that Inners seemed to get. Went for a run round Cardrona Forest lots of sheet ice in the open stretches.
Going down tomorrow for a night ride. Could someone give me an update as of trail conditions.
Inners didn't get snow - not sure where that came fron TBC?
Anyway - rained most of the day yesterday clearing low lying stuff but if it freezes could be messy. Mildish now (Not freezing)
The group Br mentions found the forest roads to be quite treacherous in places having to ride right on the edges. Singletrack mostly OK but isolated icy patches which should be easier to spot in daylight. HTH
We had a light dusting of snow overnight (Bathgate) and the car looks like it needs a good scraping, did Peebles see any snow and minus temperatures overnight too?
........bugger it, i'm off! 😀
Well.....its icy, very icy especially lower down. When i started off i was passed by a few groups telling me not to bother but i carried on regardless. Once upto the buzzards nest all the ice turned to snow and the next hour or so was great but then it began to rain and get milder, the second hour was less fun and of course came off on black ice......tomorrow is going to be worse 🙁
Anyone have an update on Glentress or Innerleithen from today? Has todays thaw improved things?
Attempted a ride in the Pentlands today but turned back due to sheet ice on most trails.
Inners was interesting. Sheet ice car park and exposed trails but the enduro routes and anything under the trees was mud or snow. Conditions were actually great apart from the fire roads. They turned wet over ice and were difficult to even push on - I was still mid conversation when I hit the deck pushing. Never even realised it was happening!!!
I went up the pentlands today, turned back after about 500 yards. The trail was just sheet ice. You could't push up the hill let alone ride it.
Some crazy man was up there on a crosser.
Would expect GT isn't much fun either.
After an interesting ride on the red route today a 'What crampons for Glentress?' thread would be most apposite.......
Lethal but fun but really lethal
GT was hilarious on saturday, we gave up pretty sharpish and nipped along to innerleithen, which was much better. Car park aside anyway (but that just let me get my spin on in the car).
Amazing the difference today, whole glaciers vanished overnight. Global warming!
