Hi,

I'm considering a daytrip to Glentress tomorrow. It's a 300 mile round trip so thought I'd ask on here for a sitrep!

The 7 Stanes site reckons it's clear of snow and ice, but hasn't been updated since Friday.

has anyone been today? 🙂

Neil.

There was a lot of Snow there last weekend which made it impossible to go up the Black but it was very similar to bobsleighing once we got to spooky wood.

Just back from Glentress, some puddles but it is as druidh says very warm and also windy in Peebles just now. All trials fine if a bit wet.

Was as good as it's ever been, today... Wee bit of standing water in places but otherwise just wet enough to be sticky.

Class up there today - however my first trip since the peel centre opened...

a few observations..
there are now even more Audi's parked there - must have been more than 10 there at 10:00 😉
There is only 1 shitter (didnt venture to cafe)
Less parking then there previously was - we finished at 2 ish and there were cars parked everywhere .

Other than that a cracking day.

Aye, lack of parking was hopeless today, usually the old top car park is open but it was locked up for some reason.

Agreed on the Audi front, but one of them was an RS4 so that's ok by me 🙂

I doubt I'd drive that far to ride a trail centre that will be packed with other riders.

It's all about choice. I like natural trails, far from the crowds.

Agree on the parking, took me a while to get a space. I did think there was some shocking parking going on though, you could fit 2 cars where there was 1 in many spots.

What's the problem with Audis?

Thinking of going for a spin round GT tomorrow. Anyone else heading to the Audi fest?

Nothing for you to see here then dude. On you go 🙂

I can't see anybody above who has actually been to GT today complaining about busy trails, only that the new (smaller) car park was very busy.

I like both by the way. I was out on the NYM yesterday and didn't see another soul. However, it's nice to have a mud free fun ride every now and again, so where's the harm?

Aye... We saw a few people but you couldn't call it crowded, only took the smallest amount of sense to avoid getting in each other's way. Winter draws more people to the trail centres because the "natural" trails are so soggy but even then it's never a problem.

Is the road up to the top car park open? Want to take the kids up to do the green route.

Should be, it only usually gets closed when there's a threat of bad ice.

Did a wet and windy lap of the red yesterday. Was going to ride the black out to the masts and cut over but wind meant that staying amongst the trees was the right move.

Bit cold and grim but 5 minutes in was all forgotten. Big grin all the way round.

Carpark busy, trails quiet, top car park open. Sad to see the hub in it's current state but the new warm loo and shower were VERY welcome as a place to change at the end. Bike wash with diffused spray is a nice touch. Spooky is ace as always.

Points to the guy with the M5 touring and Thule triple hanging off the back. Questionable choice of aftermarket alloys did somewhat blot his copybook though.

All in all good day. Washed out on the final blue section on way back in, side door exit into a bush. Nice to be kept honest 🙂

I know one of the girls that works at the cafe and she is very good, friendly and efficient.

But the chap who served me was worse than useless... Lets hope practice makes perfect in time for summer.

And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE cafe people, make proper coffee !! That machine is an abomination and should be set on fire.

Just back from a ride at Gt today sadly cut short by a mechanical , There is a massive tree Down between Berm Baby Berm and Pennels vennel on the fire road. Must have been hell of a stormy last night. Trails are much wetter than when I was down on Tuesday but they are still taking ages to make coffee In the Peel.

carrot cake was nice though.
