I'm going to be up in East Lothian in the middle of April and was thinking of a trip to Glentress, either with the family or on my own.
But it seems to be during the school holidays so I wondered how busy it would get?
I'll also need to hire bikes so I'd need to get them booked soon I imagine.

Alternatively does anyone know of good bike hire places (either MTB or road) in East Lothian? I've only found one in Dunbar which doesn't seem to be what I'm after.

YEs... and no.

YEs the carpark will be busy probably but when you are on the trails you'll nt notice.

And absolutely bring the family there is something there for them all regardless of ability. The green is a right giggle if you go absolutely flat out but suitable for the smallest of child. The blue is great for almost anyone who can use brakes and you just ride it faster to make it harder. even the red is all ridable with chicken runs etc. The climb is a **** though.

get bikes booked and enjoy it, ignore anyone that says ride up janets brae to avoid the carpark, either park at teh carpark or ride along the bike path to the peel centre from peebles. Cfe at the peel is okay, food at the glentress hotel is decent. IF anyone doesn't want to ride there are plenty of walks etc.

Also consider go ape if you fancy a something else while you are there, yeah its a bit of a cliche but the location does make it good fun

Thanks. It was more the trails I was concerned about. We're early risers so we should get a spot in the car park ok.
I did go many years ago when we brought a busload of Spanish mtbers (our club) on a Scottish riding holiday. I got a huge amount of help from people on here actually! and it was sunny and hot for a week - it was incredible!

We now have kids in tow but they ride a little and they also love Go Ape so that's a good shout. Is it in the same place as the trails?

Yes, to get to Go Ape drive up the fire road past the Peel for a short distance and you will arrive there.

As above, no matter how busy Glentress is, you don't really notice it when on the trails. Yeah, you'll bump into folks here and there but not generally to the point where you'll get crowded on the trail.

FYI still lots of tree fall, the green route took a hammering. Check FCS websites before you go. Lots of the blue trails below the Buzzards parking lot still closed.

Thanks for the info. we're not going until mid-April so hopefully things might have been cleared up by then (or is it a mammoth task?)

@hels you didn't guide a dozen Spaniards round Innerleithen in 2010 by any chance, did you?

+1 on car park, cafe and villages get busy.

The trails not really, and if you're used to Southern England, really not that busy.

Lots to do around the trails as well, walks, GoApe, picnic by river, etc etc.
