Over my long weekend away I had a catastrophic headset failure (no, I didn't realise that was possible either) and on the second day discovered my bearings had disintingrated and collapsed.
Where other shops were unable (and in some cases not exactly willing) to help, the chap in Glentress bikes in Peebles looked at my headset, removed all the broken bits of cartridge bearings and performed an old school temporary fix of installing loose bearings into the cups such that my riding weekend wasn't ruined. He also only charged me £10 for doing so.
Anyway, I think his shop deserves a shout and I'd highly recommend going to him if you have any mechanical disasters whilst near Glentress/Innerleithen/Peebles. His shop isn't particularly obvious so the address is below.
