Evening. Currently at The Mighty One after an utterly exhausting and terrifying day skiing gullies in Glen Coe.

Was planning a bit of uplift tomorrow but apparently it doesn't open for another month.  Are there any other stunning options for a stupidly heavy enduro bike between here and Manchester? I think Nevis range mandate full face so that's out.

Not so keen on devils staircase as I did it earlier in the year and have no shuttle.

Also complete kippered after lugging a 20kg rucksack up a munro today so not so enamoured of too much effort.

WWSTWD?

Go down Glen Etive & back via Glen Kinglass & WHW, It's only about 27 miles. 😉

Where were you skiing today? I came through Glen Coe this afty, not much snow up on the tops as far as I could see.

Not much snow.  Especially from the carpark:

coe

But closer inspection looked ok for what I needed.

albeit a bloody long walk.

The gully on the right is Broad Gully, which I'd last climbed about 15 years ago, with ice axe, crampons etc.  I'd got quite scared and for some reason developed this obsession with climbing it

Did one warm up run of about 100m and then trogged up the NW face, which is the continuous line just to the left of the summit in the photo above.  To cut a long story short, it was terrifying.  I climbed part up the snow slope and part up the rocky buttresses to the sides, skis on my back and piste ski boots on my feet.

The top pitch is proper steep and gut wrenching to start, especially having only made 8 ski turns in the last month.

Anyway, as soon as I set off I had serious sluff problems.  It was ****ing horrible.  Slow avalanches of wettish snow dribbling down around me trying to knock me off my feet.  You can see the sluffs in this picture

I got down ok, but absolute zero style points until I reached the wide bowl on the left.  That was much more fun.

Anyway, after that I forced myself round the corner and up Broad Gully:

absolutely knackering.  Quick rest at the top

and then down.  No photos of that bit of course. Shame really as I skiied it reasonably well.

So anyway, yes there was enough snow.

PS, how the heck did you manage the Ciaran path with a couple of dabs?  It was proper full on technical.  SO much for my rest day.

cynic-al

Your suggestion of the Ciaran path was great.  Just a shame that I didn't follow the DS bit.  To try to keep it short I drove round to KLL and did the pipeline.  God that was shit.  Lost the will to live many times on the boggy bit.
