Thinking of dooing this at the weekend. Loop goes GlenFinglas- Glen Meann and back to Brig O turk. Question is which direction is best? Looking for longest stretch of down hill plus techyness, rather than steep/fastest.

anti clockwise,..... I made mistake of doing it clockwise and it was a slog.

Never done it, but my understanding is that it's pretty wet/boggy? I'm wondering if this is the best time to be thinking about it?

Even Kenny B. Wilson can't seem to make his mid up on this one 😉

Nothing techy at all. Anti-clockwise for fastest/steepest downhill.

Doubletrack/ fireroad all the way. Well surfaced and shouldn't be boggy at all.

Personally I would leave till a decent spring/summer day. Quite exposed up on the hill. Anticlockwise gives a longer, but less steep climb, but some short, far steeper descents. It's all pretty much landrover track, though very broken, also the undertyre conditions are very claggy in the wet, and its like riding through thick porridge.

Great views though....

I found it a pretty boring ride to be honest. Well surfaced landrover track the whole way. Not technical in the slightest. It's ok for putting in some distance and a training ride but not what i'd call fun though. Depends what you're looking for in a ride though, this sort of thing might be right up your street.

Not boggy. Also not techy (in the traditional sense, getting round the corners at those speeds can be interesting!) Good fun though.

Wait until it's dry - very dry, then ride anti-clockwise until you reach the path towards Balquhidder and head down that. Go up the other side towards Kirkton Glen, and back down that onto the old railway. Sustrans back to Callander.

I dont have a map in front of me but we used to ride an anti clockwise route from Brig o' Turk around Loch Venacher on the bike path, up to the bike path which goes up to Loch Lubnaig, on to Balquidder, a bit of tarmac then a hike up to Glen Finglass, taking the right fork briefly uphill then descending back to to Bo'T.

Must be more than twenty years or more since I last rode it.

Did it anti clockwise, if its been wet for a few days before the trail will be misery, alot of it is a fine sandy gravel which literally stops you rolling down hill when its very wet.

Ain't done it for a couple of years, but once you start going down, its damn good fun, but watch out for the ruts at the side....and a nice river to splash through at the end. Exposed at the top mind you.

Cafe at BOT has shut as well, just in case you were planning some cake.

I too was somewhat shocked to find the BoT cafe shut but there was a new one further east just on the shore which we had passed earlier - just went to the pub instead.

There's some nice singletrack in the forest near BoT, but it can be a bit hit and miss finding it. Glen Finglas is a better ride with that tacked on, especially if you have someone who knows the forests well. On its own it's a bit dull though.
