anyone know what the current conditions are like at Gisburn? planning a ride there on Sunday morning. anyone who's in the area is welcome to join me and my group and have a laugh!!
It'll be fine. It's 11 degrees out there now and all the snow and ice is long gone. Will just be puddly and a bit muddy in a few places.
It's only just got to 7C and there was lots of snow and ice when we were there on Wed. However I'm sure it will be ok by Sunday.
I'm hoping to pay my first visit there on Sunday - look out for tall bloke on a big bike with a green helmet showing a complete lack of skill
The last point won't make you stand out much in these parts. 😀
Gisburn is the wettest trail centre on the planet but if you're prepared then it's fine

If you see a load ofor muslamic beards types....that'll be us 😀
Gisburn is like the Gobi compared to Penmachno!!! 🙂
Given the winter we've had it seemed pretty good to me (not a regular visitor). Puddles but at least you know they are shallow and solid underneath, you don't lose the front wheel.
I go frequently. Have to say the trail pixies have worked wonders. There used to be a lot of standing water (nothing compared to Penmachno mind!). However I went the other week and was amazed how dry it was. A lot of the points where water would collect seem to have been filled in.
If any if the trail pixies are reading this then cheers! Some great work going on there. I'm certainly very greatful.
Take a brolly
To be fair a lot of the repair work is done FC staff, the volunteers tend to build new stuff. I can't praise the FC team highly enough, really committed and very supportive of the volunteers, often working with us in addition to their day job.
Good to know people like the trails, water is a big problem at Gisburn, on the new trail we're building we spent the first 2 hours of the last dig day diverting a new stream that had appeared. We've also got better at building drainage in from the start as well as better foundations. I hate to think how much stone we've laid under the gravel on the latest section, probably runs into 4 digit tonnage.
Have to say I was really impressed withe place. Yes it was wet and muddy in places, but that's to be expected. I was amazed at how much they packed in - I was expecting far more fireroad and easy miles.
Slightly annoyed with myself for not attempting the black runs, but time was pressing (that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it!)
Had a pleasant spin round despite my crankarm falling off about 20 times. If you saw a guy fiddling with/swearing at/kicking a red Kona then that was probably me.
Gonzy - we had a chat with your lot at the bottom of the Hope Line - I came up on one of you checking out the drop between the little trees.

the plan was to go but due to a poorly 3 year old daughter who vomited all over the back of the car on Satruday night i had to drop out...much personal sadness ensued 😥
Your pals seemed to be having a great time without you, FWIW.
😉
yes i know. they sent all the pictures and videos to our group chat!!
my only consolation was that i wasnt the only one who missed out....there's 26 of us in our group
