...and I loved it,got there for 8:00 this morning and went for a practice, when I say practice I mean I went straight to stage 2 and walked the course first, some people will tell me I'm being daft but it looked quite daunting until I had a ride, even whilst I was walking the course I had the pleasure of viewing 5 crashes in the space of 20 minuites and I thoug I would be walking some of the course but when it came to the race I completed the whole section except the second jump on the downhill.
Everyone I spoke to had loads of fun and with it being my first race ever I didn't talk it to seriously. However I ride Gisburn a lot and today I really pushed my bike to the limit and rode the course a lot faster, anyone else there today how did it go for you?????
Similar do in Whinlatter at the end of May. BBQ and beer at the end.
See Cyclewise site. All rollable I'm told.
Looking forward to seeing pics/videos/report on this. I'm racing round 2, 4 and 5 but couldn't make today and can't be arsed driving to Kirroughtree for round 3!
Nick Moor will be uploading 2000 photos to the web as I write this. Glad you enjoyed it, helped that the rain held off. Was still flippin cold being stood at the top of the slab for 8 hours though (marshaling).
I'm at round 2 and I might do round 5
It was mega cold up there stumpyjon, where will nick moor be uploading photos...roots and rain?
Yep, may take him a while though. My down jacket helped, felt a bit for the competitors queuing to start.
Loads of pics around onn facebook now linked to the Gisburn Forest page. Looked good. Quite a techy course with the drops and leap of faith etc. Really looking forward to the other rounds now 😀
Had a good day, really enjoyed it. Came 5th in veteran, came off on one stage and was held up on another by a slower rider, probabley cost me a podium but hey ho, it's racing and these things happen. It was a well run event with a great atmosphere. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Stumpyjon, thanks to yours and all the other marshal's efforts. It was a great event but I'm well aware that things like this can't go ahead without people giving up their Sunday to watch others having fun.
I had a great day - well, apart from the top half of stage 3! Thumbs up to the organisers and I'll try and get to some more rounds this year. Looking forward to the photos.
Hmmm I'm seriously thinking about having a go at the grizedale round, but having never raced, 44 and a bit of a mincer am a bit hesitant. Give me a kick up the are please.
Lowey, do it. There was a whole range of riding ability yesterday. All the 'tricky' bits had routes round them that only took a few seconds longer than the 'fast' line.
Plenty of fast guys and girls but equally plenty of riders out there with not much experience. The atmosphere is great though - no one seemed to be taking it too seriously and everyone was encouraging, friendly and just having fun on bikes.
Consider this a kick; do it 😀
Great day out, was one of the first to go so not sure where I finished, I'm guessing times will get posted at some point today?
They seem to post information on Facebook. Latest I've seen is this:
"Hi Everyone,
Before I finalise results I need to know if there are any descrepencies.
I have a category change for rider 65 and a dibber issue for rider 253 that I know about.
Were there any others?
Thanks
Mike"
I'm absolutely destroyed today - I don't think I really recovered from that fire road climb in the middle of stage 1!
The photos confirm that I look like a gangly spider on the back of a bike and stage 2 down leap of faith was probably the scariest thing I've done on a bike (I go to the bottom and wanted to go again!)
Quite an expensive day as my freehub decided to die halfway round the practice lap, an hours driving between practice/race lap to Escape bikes to buy a new wheel + get everything transfered over so massive thanks to the guys over there!
Yes a guys dibber didn't work in front of me on stage 2 so me and another ugh went in front of him, don't know how he got on,times and results are up on roots and rain.
And I appear to have a better time than the single track mag rider 🙂
Glad you all had fun, still some spaces for Grizedale in 3 weeks.
Results and pictures up on roots and rain now all complete.
Singletracks race report is up also - with a video to follow.
Have a look at the feedback, everyone loved it up and down the field, fun with your mates was out goal and we achieved that.
Everything will be rollerable or have rollerable options, we had riders from 13 to almost 60 years old - with 22 Grand vets so it really is a great day out for all! 87 first time racers from 286 starters (310 entrants)
First timer here at 43, thought it was time I put all that gear to the test...
Rode round for the day (46km) with two mates. Took it easy in practice & during the transitions but went as fast I could on the Stages. What a cracking day out. It was just like a normal days riding but with added bonus of the adrenaline that comes from racing against the clock 🙂
Well organised and thank you to all the volunteers.
