Looking for a new lid and curious about the giro switchblade.
Any opinions on them from real world use?
I currently have a Bell Super.
Heavy and hot,ok for winter in the uk but wouldn't buy another
As above. Too hot for year round use
I did a load of research recently and most people seem to prefer the Super DH out of the Troy Lee Stage and Switchblade.
Thanks.
Confirms my suspicions about the helmet being too hot.
I'll mainly use it on trails that don't warrant the chinbar but thought it might be useful once in a while.
Our daughter has used one for competing over the last few years. All she could buy in Canada when she busted her Met one in the previous race and had to pay top price. She uses it for full days in some very hot places.
Needs must as they are designed for a purpose. Its still lighter and more ventilated than her Disciple
Great pics 😲
I recently replaced my somewhat dented Switchblade with a Fox Proframe. The Fox is lighter and cooler but I hardly ever wear it these days, saving it for BPW and the like.
As far as the Giro is concerned the combination of yet another dent and the Fox being on sale prompted me to switch. After the first couple of rides I only ever took the chin bar off to clean it so I wouldn't get a convertible helmet again.
I bought a Giro Switchblade and it felt perfect until I tried to ride with it. It works without the chin guard and it's great as a cold weather helmet for about 9 months of the year in the UK.
With the chin guard attached the weight of it pulls the helmet down just enough to be really irritating on rough trails. Even on the tightest setting every time you get to some bumpy bits it tilts just enough to push your goggles into your eyebrows.
Without the chin guard it's rock solid as I'm bang in the middle of the size range. But, if you try to use the built in Go-Pro mount on the huge peak, same problem. The weight just causes it to creep forward constantly.
So for me, it doesn't work as a full face even thought I went to a shop to try it and got measured up etc. I thought it would serve as my only helmet on a summer road trip but when we got to Morzine I bought a D3 just so I could have some uninterrupted DH runs.
Tried friend's Switchblade. Felt very nice on the head, putting it on was a bit of a task as it was very tight around ears.
However once one felt very, very nice.
I imagine it would be pretty hot in the summer.
Feeling much more robust and providing better cover than Bell Super.
Haven't tried with chain guard, but friend used it like that during hist trip to the Alps and was pretty fine with it.
Cheers!
I.
I’m very happy with my Parachute in summer btw.
Mate has Switchblade for BPW duties and has stopped wearing it in favour of an On-One full face.
Maybe buy a proper half shell and a cheap FF for occasional use.
I'm after a lightly used Giro Switchback in size medium if any of you guys aren't happy with yours and want to move it on. Must be un-crashed and in good condition. Not too fussed about the colour.
PM me if you have one.
