Ye old faithful Gore windproof jacket/gilet is finally giving up.

Current jacket has zip off sleeves turning it into a gilet which would be nice to replace like for like. Is there anything similar or whats good in the world of gilet mtbing

B

My Endura Windchill is my favourite bit of cycling kit. It doesn't have arms but I end up wearing it about 70% of my rides.

I got a Polaris one in one of their neve ending sales. It’s great. Packs down small, cheap and comfy.

This one but I paid £15 for mine not £50!!!!

The Polaris one is fine. Cheap in one of their usual sales. Basic and not breathable. But, hey, it's a gilet.

My DHB Gilet is one of my most used bits of kit.  Nothing fancy just a windproof front an mesh rear with a couple of pockets.

Less is more with this sort of garment imho.

Aussie Grit is a good one but expensive.  Good review by Chipps. Bought mine half price in sale.

I can't help you as I've never found anything better than my Gore Phantom zip-off sleeve gilet.

Been riding with the Fox Racing Attack Fire vest and can't fault it. Abigale has one of the Aussie Grits which were 50% off at James Cycles as she thought it was a better fit for her and worked out cheaper for me.

I got mine from continental tyres it's fine. Mesh back better for when a back pack, rubbish if no backpack and muddy.

Got a basic dhb one which is lightweight but quite acceptable . I have a heavier galibier one for bad weather which is a good bit of kit but a bit more expensive but noticeably better made as well.

The Gore is my favourite but it's almost pink (rather than original red) from washing / age.

The idea gilet has a windproof front, napoleon pocket and mesh rear.

I have;

Polaris - I dont like the cut and the material is a bit rubbery.

Howies - No napoleon pocket. Weak zip.

Endura - Good cut and material but solid back makes it too hot on milder rides.

Gore Windstopper Countdown AS - Favourite but they dont make them anymore.

I have about 6 different ones - really versatile garment and depends on time of year. Probably my favourite is Polartec Alpha - perfect for overnighters or a mid layer in really cold conditions. I also have a Gore Windstopper Softshell which is ideal for MTB in spring / autumn as it has a non-mesh back so better at dealing with mud.
