[ranton//] Gone from £1395 2010 to £1695 for 2011!!. ARRGGGHHHH! all they did was bung a 10 speed cassette on, and swap the jucy three's for some non-series shimano brakes F.F.S!!...[/rantoff]

The thing is I still realy want one 😐 Am I mad ? or should I be looking at something else for this kind of money?

18% price rise isn't unusual for 2011. It's actually not Giant's (or any other manufacteurer's) fault this time. AFAIK, it's primarily due to Tiawan to Europe shipping costs trippling in the last 18 months. Relatively low value, bulky items like bikes are being hit hard.

VAT rise equates to about £50 on a £2k bike, doesn't it?

What really boils my wee is last years bike was (in Australia) 2299 Aus$, this year? 2299 Aus$. The US price, 2010 $2125, for 2011? $2000..... now this being the U.K you would expect a price hike, but 20%!? A**e! 🙁

Worserer still, after getting myself all hot and sweaty over the anthem x 29er and working out how many granny's I'd have to turn over to afford one....I find out it's £2950...which is pretty good given the spec in the photos (xt,elixr cr's,FIT fork,DT wheels).Except its not....Deore hubs with crappy rims, slx chainset, non FIT fork and deore brakes....for £3000!!Mortified I am.

The spec ticks off most of my "wants" on my wish list eg:- Alu frame, tapered headstock, front thru-axle, lack of the 2010 models juicy three's.

I'm just struggling with the 2011 price hike on the m.r.r.p, vs finding a similarly specced bike for less, I can't at the mo'.

Will probably cave in and buy one regardless, unless of course anyone on here can suggest an alternative. 🙂

Irrespective of price they won't sell anyway as everyone knows 29ers are shite.

The £ has dropped dramatically against the $AUD so that doesn't surprise me.

Having heard a few explanations today, as to just why the U.K. m.s.r.p of Giant cycles has skyrocketed, compared to other major world markets, the suggestion of "Pirates" by soulrider, wins the prize. Deffo hit the nail on the head there I think.

primates, I believe, are the root of the problem

used to be able to pay peanuts & get monkeys; these days you're lucky if a lemur turns up
