I've got a 2011 Trance and some nice new (to me) revelations to put on it. I'm struggling to find a direct answer to the question 'what headset do i need to buy to fit them' ideally i'm thinking a 25 quid FSA jobby as opposed to the 60 quid hope mix and match option.
Does anyone know the repercussions of this overdrive / overdrive 2 nonsense? i know the stem is a std 1 1/8 on my bike, so does that make it over drive not over drive 2?
Looks like 2011 frames were a standard 1"1/8th to 1"1/2 tapered steerer.
Overdrive = Standard tapered steerer
Overdrive2 (OD2) = Stupid Giant proprietary size!
So you should just need a normal tapered headset assuming fork has a tapered steerer tube.
If the stem is 1 1/8 then it's just Overdrive and the forks should just swap straight over without the need to change the headset.

Not necessarily, the lower level Trances came with a straight steerer fork so you would need to change the lower headset cup/bearing. You can get just the lower unit from some people like Nukeproof.
If the fork you take out is tapered you will just need to swap the crown race from the old to new fork and you are away!
Should be ok, mine was the x1 with fox fit rls.
Even my 2011 X4 had standard tapered tora's on as standard so you should be safe I reckon
