I have been running a Giant Trance 3 2014 27.5 for just over a year now & all is good, i now want to upgrade both wheels to Hope Hubs & simply bamboozled with all the options for sizes, spokes & rims I,m looking for correct sizes & recomendations, looking for something light but robust as im also prone to the ocasional burger 🙂
Just put some easton xr650 on mine, £125 from rose bikes, went up tubeless no problem, if yours is standard 9mm back end, you will need a conversion kit, mine was £16 and the axle was another £25 I think, (that was to fit a 142x12 rear wheel......
Running arch ex's/hope pro2's. Still running straight and true, after numerous visits to BPW and general abuse.
I've got s.s.tactic on mine £ 200 nice and light.
As per treefeller, got SS Tactics on mine....light and (so far) strong!...but I know what it's like to be fixated with a brand, for me it's Shimano brakes (won't run anything else!) so if you want Hope wheels that's what you should get...don't they do their own 'enduro' rims now to go with the hubs?
60 engagement versus hopes 40.
Are the tesla hubs better longevity-wise?
My XTC came with the same wheels and I pretty quickly swapped them for ZTR 3.30 on Crests. For a Trance I'd use Flows. My other bikes all have Hopes, but I'm happy with the ZTRs and the added lightness makes a big difference to the way the bike rides.
The standard answer will be Hope Pro2s on Stans Crest/Arch/Flow depending on your riding.
Crest = XC, Arch = Aggressive trail, Flow = Enduro/DH trails.
If you're over 90kg, I'd go up a rim.
My recommendation would ve to look at LightBicycle rims, laced to some Pro2s.
Carbon, light, stiff as anything, wide.
The 30mm are the same width as the Stans Flow Ex.
If it were my money I'd be buying LightBicycle rims all day long. As would anyone in the know.
