Hi
I received my 2012 Trance x2 yesterday, and it looks amazing! Better in the flesh! 😀 I am slightly worried about the size though, its a M (18"). I am 171.5cm (5'7.5) high, inside leg is 80cm. The Giant size chart puts me at a M, even if I reduced my dimensions down to the next level down still M.
When I stant over the bike the top tube is nearly touching my man bits. other than that the geometry feels fine.
Any thoughts?? Im wondering if I should have gone with a small (16"), I have the oportunity to change it as the tyres have not yet touched outside.
Thanks
Chris
I have a similar inside leg measurement to you my 2007 M giant Reign top-tube is possibly nudging.
Modern bikes with long forks do tend to have steep top tubes so if you stand forward off the saddle it's pretty inevitable if you don't have long legs.
I think the gap under the nuts thing is exactly that.....b@ll@cks, wouldn't worry about it, go and get it mucky 🙂
if everything but standover is fine, if you changed it, it'd all be wrong.
Too big, send it back and buy my Heckler 😆
Do me a full build for £1600 and you have a deal... ;0) What size frame is your Heckler out of interest?
I think the problem is that the 2011/12 trance has a straight top tube whereas the old trance along with many other FS XC bikes have a kinked top tube to give more stand over clearence and to prevent bashing of knees.
I found the same problem when I was looking at getting a new bike and ruled out the trance because of it....
You're the same height and inside leg as I am. Annoyingly I'm a "tweener" with most bikes, not really a small, not really a medium. I've got an Anthem and first bought a 2nd hand small frame as the geometry seemed ok, but what I found was that I had to run a crazy amount of seat post for it to fit. I then bought a medium and it was an all round better fit, slightly less room on the standover, and a bit more length on the TT but almost perfect.
Slightly different standover to the Trance but same frame sizes (16 Small, 18 Medium), so you may well find you have the same problem I had with the smaller Anthem.
When I stant over the bike the top tube is nearly touching my man bits.
But this isn't how you ride a bike? How's it stood on the pedals?
It's a 17", you have ridden it. For £1600 I could do you a nice build ;)Probably full XT and Hope wheels
Billy the fish had an 18" Trance and Anthem. He is the same height and inside leg as you and they both fit him fine.
A small would be too small.
Yep he speaks the truth.....5'8 I'll have you know 😆
