Has anyone else on here experienced this? I was changing my suspension to find the drive side lower link arm has snapped. Now it’s not my gnarrrrr bike, I use it for taking my toddler out, and I have no idea how long it’s been snapped in two for.
A bit of googling has shown this is a common problem, so if you have a reign X check your lower links!

As an aside, anyone know where to get a spare maestro lower link from? The only one I can find is over a hundred quid, which seems a fair bit steep for a pooling bike

How old? Have you approached where you bought it from?

@tcomc1000

What year?

I've some bits/links from when mine were replaced FOC by Giant. Nothing wrong with them but Giant supplied the Bike shop with a complete link and bearing kit when all it needed was the small upper link that ground into the seat post when the bearing collapsed.

PM me and post a picture on here and I'll have a look in the shed.

Lower link on my Trance X (2014) snapped earlier this year.

Giant declined a warranty as the shop decided I hadn't serviced it as per the guidelines. Won't be buying another Giant.

Oh and the replacement part from Giant is different so I guess they were aware of the issue.

2010 reign X0 still going strong, had replace 1 link few years ago after cable rub wore into plate. Had buy the whole set at time, so may be similar now hence price?

Maestro lower links occasionally break, it's fairly rare, but I think there was a particular problem with the Reign X of 2009-ish requiring several revisions to stop them snapping.

My mistake, it was the 2010 model. There was a thread on mtbr at the time.

TBF, you probably need to find a better shop.
I’ve used Giant for years in part because of excellent warranty service (via LBS).
For example - old 26” Trance frame cracked, got replaced with current (at the time) equivalent complete 27.5” bike (£3k+ bike).
But I have a good relationship with the shop who will go the extra mile to push the claim through.

Cheers Mark have pm’d you.
My other reign 1 I have had for just as long, and have done a lot of mileage with it fine, aparently it’s just a bit of an issue with the 2010 reign Xs

As I said, it could have been like that for years, I just don’t like going out on it now with a snapped link and my 1 year old on the wee ride with me

Three in the group I'm in have the 2015 reign's and two have snapped the rear triangle. Both replaced under warranty.

My 2010 Reign X snapped on the lower maestro link on the drive side in Les 2 Alpes, second day of a holiday. The link had a thin section to fit around the ISCG tabs and it completely sheared on that side. Couldn't work out why my cassette kept skipping all over the place on the run down so that was the give away for me 🙂

No way was that getting fixed in a resort, and I tried to find a link without success - had to hire a bike for the rest of the trip. Giant replaced the whole frame and shock under warranty when I got back.

What do you reckon, see if the warranty covers a ten year old bike?:)

Haha give it a try (or at least ask for a linkage!) if you bought it new - I had two warranty Reign X frames out of Giant before I gave up (the one that broke in the Alps was a new warranty replacement for the previous one!). Fair play to Giant, they have always been good to me on warranty.

Giant are usually fantastic with warranty issues like this. Providing that you've taken care of your bike / replaced bearings as and when needed, I'd try another Giant stockist and see if they can have another go at pushing the warranty claim through.

That looks ideal - if you can get it to me I would really appreciate it.
Bloody brilliant forum this!

I think with Giant it really depends on the store. I bought a bike from H2 Gear/Giant St Pauls and when the back end imploded because of a snapped axle they couldn't give a toss, but the closest Giant store to me, York, managed to get me a new rear triangle as a "goodwill".
