Mate of mine has just bought a Giant with this bizzare steerer size.
He wants to upgrade the fork to a standard tapered steerer Fox.
So, bottom bearing should fit OK, yeah?
What top bearing/adaptor does he need please?
Cheers in advance. 🙂
1&1/8th 36/45 bearing.A 1 1/8th compression ring,cover and top cap.
So it's as simple as chucking a new bearing it then?
What's the ID of the top of the headtube?
I'm sure Hope or Cane Creek will do a cup if its a weird size.
IHNWOAGWOD2
It's 44mm.They just use a bearing with a bigger I.D.
Overdrive or Overdrive 2?
They are different.
If it wasn't overdrive 2 surely he wouldn't need to ask?
Normal overdrive.
That said, we've just had it apart and it seems to be an Overdrive head TUBE with a normal tapered steerer fork in it, so it should be a straight swap.
Good info though chaps, thanks for that. 🙂
Normal Overdrive is standard tapered.
It's only overdrive 2 that has the 1 1/4" top to the steerer.
Really? Thanks for clearing up the daft confusion dude! 🙂
If it wasn't overdrive 2 surely he wouldn't need to ask?
Yes precisely why I asked - OD is standard taper. OD2 still accepts standard taper but needs the reducer cup/bearing at the top.
So, if I understand it correctly.....
To run an Overdrive 2 as a normal Overdrive with normal tapered forks you just replace the top cup with something like a Hope top cup?
