This one has made it to the top of the list just now, but just wondering what the yamaha motor is like, probably after one of the newer 625wh models, kit looks good, they look nice and with the maestro suspension and geometry it looks like it'll do the job, but what have others found?

STW review put me off, they reckoned the motor sat so low that it was walloping the motor off every rock and the rider was having to back off as a result

Looked at it, but the chainstays are enormous at 470mm, so that and the overall weight made it a no from me.

Motor and battery look decent though.

I bought mine the start of lockdown (1 pro) as has been mentioned, the motor does sit low and i have walloped it a few times forgetting about it.

Mine is the 500wh model, bit annoyed i wasn’t told about there being the 625 coming out literally weeks after i bought it or else i would have waited.

The only thing i can moan about the bike apart from the low motor is the ‘auto’ function on the motor is annoying....never enough power available, sort of gives you minimum assistance.

Wouldn’t change anything about it spec wise as it’s brilliant

Just noticed that, but not really sure if i'd really be that bothered by a slightly longer chainstay, as the overall wheelbase is the same as my current bike, it's an ebike for messing about on and hunting for stuff, so not sure how 30-40mm extra chainstay length might change things?

Makes it harder to lift the front end, makes it easier to climb steep hills.

I'll give one a try, not that worried about getting the front end up, for 1" i would hope being able to get my weight back a little more would help, i did find i had a struggle with the front on my old ebike with 440 chainstay, the weight distribution being bottom heavy always made it a different type of feel than the transition i have

Had one since the start of lock down.

Not found any real issues with the low motor position except on a couple of rocky shoots that are sketchy on any bike. I've had few smacks to the bottom of the motor, but I come close to smacking the chainring on my Radon swoop on these trails anyway.

Maestro suspension is still one of the best out there.

Chain stay length is largely irrelevant on an eBike in my opinion.

Motor is fine, but as it is my first eBike I've nothing to make a comparison with.

I looked at the Kenevo as the alternative, but the Giant spec is far better (or it was at the time).

Ultimately it depends on your preferred riding. I don't like climbing and I live on the top of a hill at 250 metres and the river is at 5 metres so my style is to blast down the steep stuff and power back up on the Reign. Reign fits the bill perfectly. If you want more of an XC experience I'd look elsewhere

ISSUES:

The straight pull hubs/wheels are unique, spokes are only available from Giant.

Motor noisy with play in the cranks - replacement being fitted in October.

Conked out twice on rides in the rain with lots of ground water and stream crossings.

Head set junk. Replaced it with a Hope one.

Hth

Sounds good, cheers for that, i'll be replacing the wheels anyway, not out of necessity, but have spares sat in the garage, i can keep an eye on the cranks, but most ebikes suffer a bit from this, anything around the motor just causes noise to be amplified.

Headset, i'll have a look, if its a zero stack i tend to just replace the bearings and seal up a little, have a few bearings that'll fit 56/44s, so hopefully that's the size!

Well picked it up last week, first ride yesterday and in the rain/mud it never conked out, the motor is plenty powerful and quiet compared to what i've tried previously (E8000 and Bosch Gen4), going uphill it does seem a little less powered in turbo/boost than the Gen4, but it's percentage is down on that, i do love the auto mode though, seems like an easy way of just going around, although i can see the bike doing more than i want and burning battery.

The wheels are pretty good as well, kept them on as they're alright for what i'm doing, same with pretty much everything bar the seatpost, unfortunately i have now found that there is a limit to the seatpost length, and it's pretty limiting, no way for a 150mm post or above to be fitted to a small.
