I've scrapped the idea of getting a 29er hardtail and have switched to the giant anthem 29 x1 as it looks a good deal. Does anyone have one and what do you think of it? Also did you upgrade anything on it over standard?
I was reading somewhere that the carbon framed anthem 29er isn't much lighter than the alu version either, so i can't really justify the extra expense for possibly small weight loss/stiffness gain.
Got a 2013 29er x1 and all I can say is its the best bike i've owned. Not changed a thing on mine , all the stock stuff is good quality and just works. It keeps on surprising me just how capable it is , not just a race bike but covers the ground really fast if that's what you want to use it for.
Demo if you can. I was all set on the Anthem, went to a demo day, didn't like it, took the Trance out just out of curiosity, very much liked it, and ended up buying one after changing my thoughts on what I was going to use the new bike for, i.e. trail rather than race. However keeping my old 26er dually for racing allowed me to make that decision, otherwise I would have had to find an alternative I could race...occasionally.
I thought Giant had dropped 29ers as overnight the company had decided they were rubbish & 27.5 had the sun shining out of it's arse?
If so a good deal on an "obsolete" 29er should be had
Awesome bikes to ride, l have a 2012 X2 with the SRAM groupset and its a brilliant bike. Probably the best ive ever owned in 20 odd years of mtb'ing.

Giant are monitoring the demand for 29er, if people don't want to buy it anymore then Giant wont sell it. All other Bike manufacturers do the same, Giant just vocalized it.
Great deals on 2013 Anthems/Trance's now......Giant have included one 29er Anthem and one Trance for 2014 only.....that's why I bought a Tallboy.....if they'd brought out a top end maybe carbon Trance 29 er for 2014 it would be mine...when you consider the top end models advanced etc virtually sold out it seems a bit silly.... Egg baskets etc....great bikes tho
Ive just pre ordered an anthem 650 but shop said as its still early I can change my mind and still keep thinking about the trance
Wish I knew the proper weights on the new 2014 bikes.that could sway me
I think the anthem will suit me better tho. Wheels on ground non jumpy long days in the dales and the odd trail center . If I did it the other way round id prob pick the trance
Not much help to the op lol just trying to decide myself
Love my Anthem 29 X2. My mate on a Carbon stumpy FSR was very impressed when trying to stay on my tail at Haldon. OK, so Haldon isn't particularly technical but its the sort of trail where the Anthem excels.
Have both an Anthem 29er and a Trance 26". I like both, but they are definitely very different bikes, and each has its pros & cons. The Anthem is faster, but the Trance more fun. I use the Anthem for races, flatish courses, and MTB touring. I use the Trance for everything else, and it really comes into its own in the twisty/turny/jumpy stuff...
Hi
I have a Anthem X 29er in the brushed chrome, running 1 by 10 XT/XTR all over, carbon bars, seatpost, Hope pro 2 with stans ZTR.
Its fast, stable, climbs fantastic.
Coming from a carbon hardtail I prefer my anthem as an all rounder.
