Anyone own a Giant Anthem 2 2017 (27.5). Looks a great bike, few questions:

- What length is the stem ? some reviews say it is too long and a little clumsy ?

- Do you find the 30T and 11-42 chain set up under geared ? seems very hill orientated but does the bike spin quickly out on flats. I have no car so have to road ride long sections to get to trails.

- How is it setting up tubeless on this bike.

thanks

Really easy to change stem if you don't like it.

I'd be really surprised if anyone would spin out regularly on the flat off road. On road very possibly, but that's the same for most stock gearing on off road bikes.

Will be as easy to set up tubeless as anything else.

Personally, if you are looking at short travel XC bikes (and that reflects the type of riding you are doing), I would discount anything that isn't a 29er.

I actually have a 2013 29er Giant Anthem already which I will be keeping for commuting to work. The 29er is a quick bike (22/30/40t and 11-36T) but find it a bit clumsy on tight trails and getting air.

Just wondering if I can justify a 29er and 27.5 Anthem, they are very different component wise. The 27.5 is a 1x10, clutch mech, much lighter, longer travel forks (100 Vs 120mm front and 100 Vs 110mm rear, more nimble and has a dropper.

Had a bast on a shops 2017 Anthem 1 and loved it, felt very differnt to my 29er but out my price range.

Not sure why you would run 2 bikes that were so similar. If you are pushing the limit on tight trails, and getting air, there are probably more suitable bikes than the anthem.

As I mentioned on your other thread, I have a Anthem Advanced 1 (for sale). Not sure how long the stem is, but I would say it is "trail short". The 2017 Anthem is modern geo, with a slightly slacker head tube than older XC bikes like your 2013 model. It is also 120mm / 110mm suspension. So whilst the same in name, I would actually argue they are pretty different.

In terms of gearing, I have 32T front and 11 - 46 rear, which I find a good combination. I would not want to drop to 30.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
