During a ride yesterday my gears were ghost shiting all over the place when under load, specifically when pedalling hard on the downs. When it comes to gears my knowledge is very poor, what do I need to be looking at? I suspect i need to look at cable tension, however, shifting when not under load is not perfect but not terrible. I will be greatful for any help or advice on this one.

Are you sure it wasn't slipping rather than ghosting? If it was then you probably need a new chain/cassette.

If it's ghosting then check your cable tension or you may need new cables. Also check your rear mech alignment as your mech hanger may be bent.

maybe the pivots in the mec are nakerd, take it to a shop if you dont know what you are doing, or better still by a bike book and some tools and have a play, if its already broke you cant mess it up can you 🙂
