Quick one, trying to tubeless some older rims that are deep and wide.
Tape and split tube isn't filling the depth enough to get a reliable seal.
I'm sure I've seen something mentioned in the past that can go between the rim tape and split tube rim strip - some kind of packing or foam tape?
Anyone know what I'm on about/something to do the job?
I bodged a similar problem with several laps of the rim with sellotape then some elephant tape to hold it all down.
I've just set up a pair of fat bike wheels tubeless that were so loose the tyre would fall off the rim when not inflated (Calibre Dune).
I ended up with two laps of camping mat. One lap was enough to start with but this compressed with the air pressure so a second run of foam was needed when I came to add the sealant.
Laminate floor insulation is recommended but I had a big void to fill so camping mat made more sense.
Asda have camping mats in for £4 at the moment.
What I did was to run a ratchet strap around the tyre. this forces it out to the bead and makes pumping it up easy. I didn't fill the rim up with stuff as it makes it too difficult to get tyres on and off
Thanks all.
While looking at this some more I stumbled on the foam draught excluder tape as well.
The £4 camping mats sound good for other things too!
