Anyone had any success making something that grips a little better than the style you can buy? I've managed to bend and break two cheapo ones this afternoon trying to remove a very stubborn cassette. I was thinking of using an old seatpost and chain somehow.
How did the lockring get done up that tight has it siezed?
Seatpost might work but they are usually flat
old bit of chain and some 3"x"2" would do it.
Try and arrange the two levers (the whip and the spanner on the lockring) just a few degrees apart, a two-handed squeeze can deliver a lot of torque in a controlled fashion.
Any bit of bar will do. Just make the chain long do you an wrap it all the way round the small cog so it over laps.
You can use bmx chain too
Got a mate with a vice?
I'm afraid I may have overtightened the lockring myself in a quest to remove an annoying creaking noise a few months back. Doh!
