What's the best/easiest way to get the freehub bearings out and back in? The video here is a helpful guide to service the hub generally, but doesn't show how to get the freehub bearings out/in.
heat the hub / freehub in hot water. Makes it much easeir and freeze trhe bnew bearings.
Knock the central spacer to one side and drive the bearings out from the centre outwards working evenly each side
Yeah drift them through carefully, helps if you can hold it in a vice (again carefully).
i just bought a whole new freehub (steel upgrade) after near flattening a socket set bit trying to bodge the outer most race out.the pro2 it came off was 2years old at the time, its over 3 years now and the original bearings in the hub itself still show no signs of wear.
i practiced on the old alloy one again recently after the same 1 x freehub side bearing on a newer pro 2 wheel set on the HT had developed play, ive knocked fek out of it and it just isnt budging. think i will just buy a new freehub again as the rest of the bearings still seem to be fine.
as a positive it means ive got a few spare if i ever attemp to do a proper job and fek the old ones up.
who cares if its the more expensive or the heavier option, it saved a lot of swearing and the job was done in ten mins.
