So first met in 2002, weve been all over the UK - xc races at thetford, DH races at Aston, CYB, Afan, 7 Stanes, raced the Megavalanche-twice!, drifted dusty switchbacks in Spain, Alpine singletrack in Chamonix.
Went down the BETD long travel plate experimentation phase, with bigger forks but by 2010 things were getting creaky, a snapped seastay had been replaced by a geo messing one from a Stinky So inevitably she was stripped and stashed in the loft to make way for a newer model.
Well earlier in the year CRC had a bearing kit and a seatstay on sale, got the lot for 40 quid and yesterday I finished the build, ish.

The only problem is it rides like shit!,too short, narrow, steep, & high - ok the forks and the brakes need a service, drivetrain is very worn.
I could get some wider bars and shorter stem and a deore cassette/chain but my plan to use it as a winter hack bike is now up in the air, compared to my new long low and slack Process its just no fun.

maybe sometimes the past should be left untouched

Yep - great in their day, but technology ha changed sooooo much in the last 10 years.

Memories are like fantasies - best kept in your head, as the reality rarely matches expectations.

Best left as a memory. You will no longer be able stare into the distance shake your head and say, "that was a bloody good bike" because you'll now remeber it for riding like shit.

I never lost touch with my first love, fair enough she sits chained up in the garage but she'll always be there ready for use and abuse should I fancy her.

hmmm I maybe should be careful what i say, people might think I'm talking about a bike/car. 😉

I'm a fan of old Kona FS Bikes, however they definitely belong to a different Era, steep angles and higher BBs was just how kona made their bikes back then. it can be monkeyed with to make them feel a shade more "Current", but maybe you're expecting a bit much from an old "Jack of all trades" FS frame.

If you can get some longer forks, maybe consider offset shock bushes, possibly soften the rear shock a little, and the shorter stem/wider bars idea, but don't expect it to ride like a 2013 equivalent.

you could alway chuck it on the classifieds / ebay, unless sentement has still got he better of you...
