Am having trouble with getting the tyre to sit properly on the rim of the rear wheel. Wheel is crossmax slr and tyre is a bonty acx though have had the same problem with other tyres i tried. I don't run tubeless but could be persuaded to give it a try in it means no more wibble on the wheel. any suggestions or tips gratefuly accepted. There is only so many times i can be arsed pumping it up and then immediately deflating it. off for a cup of tea.

washing up liquid on the rim before inflating works for me.

easily washed off too!

CO2 works a treat for getting UST tyres seated.

But of washing up liquid on the bead then pump the tyre up HARD to get it seated then let the preasure down to your prefered level.

the way i read this I'm thinking it's a normal tyre on a normal rim.

Try partially inflating and then beating the tread of the tyre all the way round which should encourage it to even up and bead on properly.

I've also had probs in the past particularly with bigger tyres on narrower rims where the valve goes. Try fitting the tube and then as you seat the bead either side of the valve hole push the valve in a bit first to move the thicker rubber bit where the valve enters the tube out of the way, seat the bead either side of the valve and then pull the valve back out.

Put about 70/80 psi in it

Washing up liquid to get it to hold air. Then high pressure to make it seat correctly, you'll hear it bang as it seats in different areas.

If that doesn't work, reduce the pressure significantly then try using your hands to lever the tyre back on itself to pull the tyre onto the bead. Rarely have I needed to deflate fully and start again.

Sounds like you're using a conventional rim/tyre/tube set up. However, the trick of a bit of sudsy solution will still work just as well this way. make sure the valve is behind the bead properly and over inflate. Then let the tyre down to your desired pressure. You'll actually head the bead popping into place this way.

The non soapy solution method is to get it to about 20 psi and then grab the tyre are move as if you're trying to roll it off the rim. Do this all the way around on both sides, however, the soapy solution works much better. Just don't try it with rim brakes.

A Mavic Crossride rim & Bonti ACX........... been there, tried to do that & after 1hr 45mins I gave up 😕

I did manage to get the front one on with no probs but the back one was a nightmare. I never managed to get it fully on & I even had to use steel tyre levers to get the bleeding thing off again 👿

Good luck & let me know the secret if you ever succeed.

Just be careful .... i had a soaped up tyre blow off the rim at 50psi .... it was like a bomb. It blew the tyre 15 feet away and left my hand black'n'blue, That was at a petrol station !

I am having exactly this issue right now with a tubed set up. all the usual tricks haven't worked. soaped rim, 90 psi, 20 psi and prise it into place, hitting it with a hammer.

I have given up for now. I may go to the pub

I usually pump my tyres up to the max pressure (if they look wobbly) and then deflate to what I run them at. They usually make popping noises at about 60psi as they seat.

Been up to 90 psi and it didn't seat. Brand new conti gravity on wbt rim.

put 20psi in then you can kind of drag the sole of your shoe down the sidewall with the tyre on the ground 😀

Plenty of soapy water & 25psi should do it - could be a faulty tyre?

Sometimes the valve gets a bit stuck. Put a few psi in it then push the valve into the tyre to make sure nothing is stuck.

i had the same issue as ozzybmx - nightmare.

I had massive issues getting my tyres to seat (Panaracer XC Pro's) Finally managed it and off i went to Nepal. On day two got a puncture. I spent an entire even trying to seat the tyre (to the amusement of fellow cyclists and Nepalese bystanders) A chap came out and took me to a local motorcycle shop - and in two seconds he got it to seat.

So, the moral of the story is........... I know a geezer in nepal who can help you!

Just use a tubeless ready ACX. They work a treat with mavic UST rims (which the SRLs are, yes?).
Plus you can run them tubeless with zero hassle:-)

I think it may be the rim tape! I changed the rim tape on the front and it seated. Now to do the back. the rim tape was thick and wider than the well in the rim
