I'm looking to stick some winter tyres on my hardtail, but the old ones appear to be on solid to the rim, had this before, ended up cutting the tyre off, but that was a naff old tyre, this one still has plenty of life, it's tubed, so no issue with the sealant having gone hard around the rim, just seems like it's needing something to soften it up a little, thought about MO94, but thought i'd ask before gushing that on, as it's a carbon rim, so might be easier solutions, not worried about damage as MO94 isn't going to do anything other than coat the lacquer, like anything i put on.
Do you mean that you can't break the tire off the bead to facilitate removal?
I can recommend putting the wheel flat on the floor and standing on the tire beside the bead . That usually breaks it for me on combos that cannot be shifted in any of the usual ways.
I've resorted to clamping the tyre as close as possible to the rim in a vice, and giving the wheel a twist to break the joint if they've been particularly stubborn. Never had much luck with the standing on the tyre method, though maybe the soles of my trainers are a bit too flexible.
I had this at weekend, stood on tyre with both feet and pulled up on 3 spokes in each hand, this did one side, tried on the other and strained my groin 🤦♂️. Then tried spraying a tiny amount of gt85 on side of tyre and rim for about 6 inches of the tyre, left for a few mins then could break the tyre rim seal and remove tyre, wish I'd tried that before putting myself off the bike for at least several days!
Might give the clamping a go, have a vice with soft jaws so could be worth a try before going full standing on it and yanking away hard ;o)
