I am thinking of buying a bike that is in London (Euston Square) but as you cannot drive there anymore or put bike on trains how can you get it home? i live 50 miles north.

50 miles is a day's ride. Easily done, unless it's something that doesn't lend itself to riding any distance?

You can still drive in. The congestion zone is pretty small now and parking is easy enough away from the prime spots. There's street parking around regents park, should only be a few quid and it's outside the zone.

Edit £2.40 an hour 9 - 6.30

Bikes are allowed on trains outside rush hour, unrestricted after 7pm and before 4pm I recall, check. Buy the bike and ride to the mainline station on side roads.

Also no congestion charge at Euston railway station - its on the limit. No charge on Saturday either fyi, you can drive anywhere free

And you can take bikes on lots of trains too. Some say no for peak time services, others are happy any time but you may need to book. if you can get a Virgin train then you can book a bike on any service.

Or just ride it.

I would ride it ,or ,Euston square is just outside the congestion charge zone ,so you can drive in & pay for parking on a roadside "meter" .Loads of places to park from Regent's Park to Euston .

If you're worried about driving in central London, Could you not just Park outside of the congestion zone in one of the suburbs, Train/bus it in from there and then ride the bike back to your car?

Check the specific operator for bike rules, but yes, generally you're fine to turn up off peak with a bike. For more long distance routes a booking may be necessary.

Or drive. Coming from the north you're not going into London centre.

Or ride it. It's a few hours ride.

Complete non issue. Unless you're gonna say it's a Giant Glory, you don't drive and have a paralysing phobia of railway stations.

Thanks all. Seems I could park at Euston station and bring it back. Would not ride a new bike much of a distance without extensive fettling which can take days.

Yup there is a car park at the station, never used it so don't know prices' I was there last Friday but we parked for free in the street as it was after 1830. What day of the week ?

Buy it from a proper decent bike shop then. A well built new bike should not need days of fettling.

I ve taken a 58 cm road bike (so quite a big thing) on the tube wheels off frame wrapped in bin bags no one cared. Takes something to tie the wheels together to make them easier to cart or buy a very cheap bike bag

Man makes statement, slightly annoyed at restriction he has heard and believes have been placed on him. Soon finds out he was incorrect and that that real situation is much more reasonable, and in fact much of what he thought was completely untrue. If only in the rest of life it was as easy to dispel myths.

He doesn't even need to park in the suburbs, he just has to park on the other side of a main road.

Have parked under Euston Stn with justpark. Co.uk for £6 weekday.
Don't know where Euston sq is in relation to the station of same name, but 50 miles I'd be riding it. Plan nice lunch stop. Be home before Blockbusters.

If you don't want to drive into central London, park in the long stay at Stanmore station (just off the M1), get tube into town, ride back to Stanmore. About 8 miles from Euston at a guess and not a difficult ride in any sense.

Parking free Saturday....no one gets out of bed before 10am so traffic quiet imo.

A good 12 miles and you'd have to cycle over the North London Alps!! 😉

I sold a bike to a guy in London who came up to pick up in Derby by train, so presumably it's doable the other way.

(The time I had my BRief Encounter moment on the platform with my beloved Santa Cruz Blur 😥 )

Yep. Make sure you take a satellite phone and leave a route plan at the ranger station 😀
