Viable businesses do not shut up shop in a day. Generally.
That’s a real shame, they were a proper roadie shop and been around for years. Went there as a junior and then when I returned to riding twenty years later. Always helpful and great for really obscure end of line road tops with sponsors you’d never heard of. One of the few decent things in Croydon.
Hi Ernie (long time no speak)
Is it just the B&M shop that's shut, or everything?
Their website is still up and running, with stock n'all.
Hi aP, yes it's been a while!
When I look at their website it says GB has shutdown.
It comes as a complete shock to me. I was aware that sales had been falling ever since the shop had relocated but I knew that the workshop was very busy.
With the pandemic encouraging people to dig out their bikes from the depths of their garden sheds both their mechanics were fully booked several days in advance.
I find the sudden closure without any warning very strange.
Thanks Ernie.
Just seen on road.cc that it's all shut. Shame. I assume there's more to it than meets the eye.
Sad, 30-odd years ago it was one of the few decent shops in the south - used to be a bit of a day-out.
There's obviously some underlying reasons because in the first half of last year, bike retail was at 200% until the bikes ran out.
Was there not some family relationship between GB and Butler Cycles in Portsmouth who then became Wiggle?
I once saw a peacock outside their shop in Croydon.
I thought Joseph Marcell had died!
Very sad if so. I used to go in there as a teenager , always super helpful .
Oh thats a shame.
Boughts lots of 'stuff' from them over the years.
I'm sure the true reason will come out eventually.
