I've booked a trip to Zermatt in July and taking my gravel bike. Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for taking the bike on the train please? Can I take it in my bike box or does it have to be unpacked and then leave the bikwe bike box in storage in the train station?

Any advise regarding transport issues or riding gravel bikes around Zermatt would be greatly received thanks

I went travelling around Switzerland with my bike many years ago and had my bike in a bike bag but I doubt that's compulsory. The bike went in a luggage carriage rather than a regular (passenger) carriage.
Really helpfully, you can also get the bike sent ahead of you (e.g. if you're just hiking for a few days, get the bike sent to your next destination and they keep it at the next station for you). Brilliant service!

Leave it in its box and book it through. The Swiss travel service is excellent. Your luggage will miraculously appear in your hotel often ahead of you. Coming back if you’re flying with Swiss, you can check it in at the station in Zermatt and not see it again until you’re home. It’s truly miraculous.

Thanks for the information. I'm flying with Easyjet. So I guess I need to book the bike box as extra luggage when I'm able to buy the train tickets?

Worth ringing the Swiss travel centre in London, they are super helpful. The half price card or on of the passes that gets you from any entry point to Amy single destination in Switzerland used to give a big saving on trainfares. You can buy them from the travel centre and used to be able to from a rail station provided you had a non-Swiss passport.
I don't know about bikes in boxes but most Swiss trains happily take bikes, skis, luggage, whatever you can carry without worry.

Its ace and simple...

Book you and the bike on 🙂

SBB.CH

If you dont (!) they will let you off and you can pay on the train. I went on with the bike as I rode to the train station (Main Zurich Station). No one batted an eyelid ! Beautiful views as well.
