Looking at getting a frame to build up as a dedicated 29 plus bike due to knee issues on my recent Pugsley refurb ( had krampug wheels too ).
I know 2015 was definitely OK
Then 2016 changed and was unpopular?
2017 onwards ..went back to original design ?
I've seen a few threads about similar themes but wanted confirmation before the search began.
I may fit a Rohloff at the rear and believe one year had a specific torque arm mount ? but others are easy to adapt. Is there any year to avoid ?
Again iirc was it the 2016 that had an aluminium fork ? If so I'd steer clear as I like steel forks or perhaps change for a carbon set.
If anyone has anything for sale or sees a frame in preferably a medium or large I'd appreciate a heads up .
Thanks in advance
Cheers
Bill in Exeter.

I had the 2016 but not sure 29+. Sliding dropouts and think it had the rolhloff torque arm mount. Cetainly bags of width and maybe the sliding dropouts give you some wriggle room.

I think only the MK1 was built as a 29er+ then it went to 650b+/normal 29"

Luckily I got a MK1, I thought at the time it was completely mad that they changed to 650b+ and like you say an alu fork.

Ps I’ve got a nordest sardinho frameset in the classifieds. May be of interest. 29x2.6 max rear but 29x3 up front.

I've got a 2017 (27.5"+) model, I run it with 3" tyres and there's plenty of space for a bigger diameter wheel. A 29er rim is only 19mm closer to the BB/seat tube.

To run wider than 2.8" you'll need to have it set up 1x, as a 2x drivechain will rub the tyre in the lowest gear!

I think the only one that has the OEM2 torque-arm bolt slot is the Second gen one with the tapered, suspension corrected aluminium forks.

I have a Gen1 but I am almost certain that the current ones are the same or at least very similar.

I run it as a 29er with 3inch up front and a 2.6 out back. A 3 inch just about fits on the back but chain rub is an issue.

I have it set up 1x12 and that makes chain rub worse due to the wide cassette. With 2.6 it’s not a problem.

I have a Surly ECR fork on mine which makes the front end a tad taller and slacker. I think it improved the ride.

All in all is a great bike. Really fun to ride, faster than it should be and very comfy.

Interesting. Is the ECR fork 27.5? I looked for a 29+ onlne, but see instead the Krampus fork:

Tyre Clearance 29 x 3.0

I have a Longitude MK1 and the only mildly annoying issue I have found is with the stock fork legs converging a little narrowly at the crown making a bad match for mudguard clearance. I’m only running 2.1 Race Kings yet can’t fit the front guard high enough to stop it buzzing the tyre on even the smallest bumps.

Can’t find a front-view of the Krampus fork, yet compared to the 2015 Longitude fork here:

taken at an angle the Krampus (L) already looks about as wide at the inner-crown as the Longitude (R) when looking straight-on. Anyone know where I can look at the Krampus fork geo? Could be a nice upgrade if it fits a mudguard and a little taller than the stock fork. Nitpicking tho, as the ‘tude is a great bike!

It is an ECR 29+ fork. It is slightly longer than the stock fork and has a few mm less offset. But it works just fine. The bike is now a bit slacker and with a bit less trail and I think I prefer it that way.

The Krampus fork is much longer and I think would throw the geometry right out as the Longitude already has a slack seat angle and a middle of the road bb drop. The extra length of the Krampus fork would push the seat angle right back.

Also, the longer fork would put more stress on the frame.

I had a quick look and it seems like everywhere is sold out of ECR 29+ forks 🙁

@gowerboy thanks. May be easier to do a little Dremel work on the guard!

You could be in luck here Kaiser.

I've got a (green)large 2015 longitude frame sat unused now since I replaced it with a custom frame.

I ran it with a rohloff as well. The dropouts have convenient holes in which I just put a bolt through to locate the torque arm. Worked fine. No problems.

I ran it with mudguards but biggest tyre I used was a 2.6. I'd say there's no need to go any bigger really. It was plenty comfortable enough and less of a weight penalty than 29+. I believe tyres are getting limited in choice in that size now as well.

Message me if your interested and I'll send you some pics.
